This easy crazy cake recipe is made without eggs, milk, or butter. The result is a rich, fudgy, and moist chocolate cake.

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 ½ cups flour
1 cup sugar
3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
5 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 tablespoon white vinegar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup cold water

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 F.
  • Add dry ingredients to an ungreased 8-inch round or square baking pan. Whisk to combine.
  • Make 3 wells in the mixture. One larger hole and 2 smaller (see image). Pour oil, vinegar, and vanilla into the wells.
  • Pour water over all of the ingredients. Mix well with a fork, making sure to get all the dry mix that gets stuck in the corners.
  • Before baking, give the pan a couple of taps on the counter to help release any bubbles. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in center comes out mostly clean.
  • Serve plain, topped with powdered sugar, or frosted. If frosting, allow the cake to cool to room temperate before frosting.

3 cups all-purpose flour
2 cups white sugar
1 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons baking soda
½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
¾ cup vegetable oil
2 tablespoons distilled white vinegar
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 cups cold water

Steps:

  • Sift flour, sugar, salt, soda, and cocoa together into a 9 x 13 inch ungreased cake pan. Make three wells. Pour oil into one well, vinegar into second, and vanilla into third well. Pour cold water over all, and stir well with fork.
  • Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 30 to 40 minutes, or until tooth pick inserted comes out clean. Frost with your favorite icing.

1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
1 cup sugar
1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup cold water
1/3 cup vegetable oil
1 tablespoon distilled white vinegar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350°F. Place first 5 ingredients in 8x8x2-inch nonstick metal pan. Using handle of wooden spoon, poke three holes in dry ingredients. Combine 1 cup cold water, oil, vinegar, and vanilla in large glass measuring cup. Pour liquid ingredients into holes in dry ingredients (there will be some overflow). Using fork, stir until batter is smooth. Bake until tester inserted into center comes out clean, about 30 minutes. Cool completely in pan on rack. (Can be made 1 day ahead. Cover and store at room temperature.)

2 cups sugar
1/2 cup margarine or 1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup Crisco shortening
4 tablespoons cocoa
1 cup cold water
1/2 cup buttermilk
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
2 eggs
1/2 cup margarine or 1/2 cup butter
4 tablespoons cocoa
3 tablespoons milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 (16 ounce) box powdered sugar

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Sift flour, add sugar into large mixing bowl.
  • In sauce pan, add margarine, shortening, cocoa and water. Bring to a boil.
  • Pour hot mixture over flour, and then add sugar. Mix well.
  • Add buttermilk, vanilla, cinnamon, salt, baking soda, and eggs. Mix well.
  • Pour batter onto well greased cookie sheet (15 1/2 x 10 1/2).
  • Bake for 20 minutes at 400 degrees.
  • Now we make the frosting.
  • 5 minutes before cake is done, combine and bring to a boil in a sauce pan: margarine, cocoa, and milk.
  • Remove from heat. Add vanilla, and powdered sugar.
  • Beat until smooth.
  • Spread over cake while hot. Enjoy!

1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup water
2 tablespoons plus 1 teaspoon canola oil
1-1/2 teaspoons white vinegar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
3/4 cup all-purpose flour
4-1/2 teaspoons baking cocoa
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
Confectioners' sugar, optional

Steps:

  • In a small bowl, beat the sugar, water, oil, vinegar and vanilla until well blended. Combine the flour, cocoa, baking soda and salt; gradually beat into sugar mixture until blended. , Pour into a greased 9x5-in. loaf pan. Bake at 350° for 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. , Cool for 10 minutes before removing from pan to a wire rack to cool completely.
