NANA SMITH'S OATMEAL BISCUITS
Old-style English oatmeal cookies, more like a bar, very popular in the 1950's, at least in our house.

Steps:
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (180 degrees C). Grease 9 x 9 inch pan.
- Melt butter or margarine in saucepan, then mix with other ingredients. Toast sesame seeds in oven or grill, being very careful to avoid burning them. Mix with other ingredients and stir well. Press into greased tin, should be about a half inch thick.
- Bake for 20 minutes (until lightly brown). Cool in pan, cutting into slices after a minute or so cooling, then leaving in pan until completely cool.

This recipe has been in the family for generations, and my sister and I make these biscuits often for our families. When I bake them first thing in the morning, the house soon smells delicious.

Steps:
- In a large bowl, combine the flour, brown sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in oats and milk just until moistened. , Turn onto a lightly floured surface. Roll out to 3/4-in. thickness. Cut with a floured 2-in. biscuit cutter. Place 1 in. apart on an ungreased baking sheet. Bake at 375° for 15-20 minutes or until lightly browned. Serve warm.
