MOM'S SURPRISE SPICE CAKE
Whenever I serve this cake, I never tell them the surprise ingredient until after they've tasted it. Then, it's just fun to see the look on their faces when I reveal the secret. Steps:
- 1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease and lightly flour 13″ x 9″ baking pan or 2 8" round pans.
- 2. In large bowl mix flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and spices. Whisk together to blend well. Add soup, butter, eggs, and milk.
- 3. With mixer at low speed, beat until well mixed, constantly scraping side and bottom of bowl. At high speed, beat 4 minutes, occasionally scraping bowl. Pour into prepared pan.
- 4. Bake 20-35 minutes, test every 5 minutes after 20 minutes, until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. This cake will become dry quickly if over-baked.
- 5. Cool in pan on wire rack 10 minutes. Frost with your favorite icing or glaze.
MOMMY'S SURPRISE
"This is a great hot sandwich that is easy to prepare, and can be frozen to enjoy later! My mom concocted this recipe when I was little, and it goes great with French fries or even potato chips! It can be a little messy, so you may need a fork!"

- In a large skillet over medium-high heat, brown the ground beef with the onion, green pepper, and mushrooms. Drain off excess grease. Reduce heat to medium, and stir in the cream of mushroom soup. Mix in the Cheddar cheese until blended, then remove from heat.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Scoop out the centers of the Kaiser rolls on both the top and bottom. Spoon the ground beef mixture into the rolls. Wrap each one in aluminum foil.
- Bake for 20 minutes in the preheated oven, or until the rolls are toasted.
