MILKLESS PEANUT BUTTER PLAY DOUGH

Milkless Peanut Butter Play Dough image

Peanut butter play dough sounded like a great idea...but why do all the recipes have powdered milk as an ingredient? I don't know about you, but to me powdered milk seems kind of expensive to use for this. So, I wondered - would flour work? Answer: yes. Ingredient amounts are approximate.

Time 5m

Yield 1 cup, 1 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 3

1/2 cup smart balance creamy peanut butter
1/2 cup flour
2 tablespoons honey

Steps:

  • In medium bowl, stir peanut butter and honey.
  • Add flour gradually to desired consistency, switching to hand kneading as it thickens.
  • NOTE: if you use a hydrogenated peanut butter like Peter Pan, Skippy, Jiff, etc, you may need to increase honey and decrease flour, as these peanut butters are thicker/stiffer than the Smart Balance.
  • With clean hands on a clean surface, play with cookie cutters, sculpt, or embellish with edibles like raisins, pretzel rods, nuts, etc.
  • Store in an airtight container in a cool place (refrigeration not recommended) and it should keep for a few days.

KOOL-AID SCENTED PLAY DOUGH

Kool-Aid Scented Play Dough image

When I lived in Alberta, Canada, there was a lady who sold this play-dough at the local farmer's market. It smelled soooo good, that I decided to try making it myself.

Categories     < 15 Mins

Time 5m

Yield 1 batch

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 cup cold water
1 tablespoon vegetable oil (I use Crisco oil)
2 (1/4 ounce) packages the same flavor kool-aid unsweetened flavored drink mix
1 cup flour
1/4 cup salt
5 teaspoons cream of tartar

Steps:

  • In a pot, combine water, oil, Kool-Aid, and salt.
  • Heat and stir until salt dissolves.
  • Add Flour and cream of tartar all at once to above.
  • Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until well mixed and dough forms a ball, (this should only take a couple minutes).
  • Remove from heat once the dough forms into a ball.
  • Cool on a clean baking sheet, kneading the dough as soon as it is cool enough to handle.
  • Cool completely, and let your kids play away!
  • (On occasion, I've mixed in a matching essential oil to enhance the fruity scent if I only have one package of a Kool-aid flavour on hand.) Store this Play Dough in a resealable plastic baggy or plastic container.
  • It should last for a couple months, depending on how often your children play with it.

EDIBLE KOOL-AID PLAY DOUGH

Edible Kool-Aid Play Dough image

I made this often as a preschool teacher and now make it regularly with my own children. Smells great and you can vary the colours depending on which flavour kool-aid you choose. My little girls current favourite is grape as it makes "purple playdough!" At Christmas we make it red or green and add peppermint extract and glitter! Orange at Halloween and we even found some Halloween coloured glitter.Pick up some seasonal cookie cutters from the dollar store and your all set. Lots of possibilities and FUN!
