Pour the blended strawberry mixture through a wire mesh strainer directly into a pitcher or other serving container to remove seeds and pulp.Discard seeds and pulp.

Hull the strawberries, then cut them into quarters. Place in a large bowl. Toss with 1/2 cup sugar and 1/2 cup of the water. Cover and refrigerate 1-2 hours.
Transfer strawberries to blender and puree until smooth. Place a large wire sieve over a large bowl and pour in pureed strawberries. Use a spoon to help push liquid through. Discard remaining seeds.
Stir remaining 4 1/2 cups water into the strained strawberries. Adjust sweetness as desired. Chill in refrigerator until ready to serve.
Immediately before serving, add ice, lime wedges, fresh mint, and/or chopped strawberries if desired.
