SUMMERTIME WATERMELON PUNCH FOR A CROWD



Summertime Watermelon Punch for a Crowd image

I attended a patio party years ago where the hostess had a clever watermelon "bowl" with a scalloped edge and filled with this punch. It was the hit of the party, and she was kind enough to share the delicious punch recipe with me. -Joan Hallford, North Richland Hills, Texas

Number Of Ingredients 5

30 cups cubed seedless watermelon (about 10 pounds)
1 can (12 ounces) frozen orange juice concentrate, thawed
1/2 cup lemon juice
1 bottle (750 milliliters) sweet white wine, chilled
3 cups chilled ginger ale

Steps:

  • Process watermelon in batches in a food processor until smooth. Press through a fine-mesh strainer into a bowl; discard pulp. Pour juice into a large pitcher or punch bowl. Stir in juice concentrate and lemon juice. Refrigerate until chilled., Stir in wine and ginger ale before serving. Serve over ice with additional watermelon.

1 oblong seedless watermelon (about 14 pounds)
3 cups seltzer

Steps:

  • Cut top third off watermelon; trim bottomjust enough to make a flat surface. Scoopout flesh.
  • Working in batches, pureewatermelon in a food processor. Strainthrough a fine sieve; discard solids.(You should have about 9 cups juice.)Cover rind with plastic wrap. Refrigeratejuice and rind until chilled, about1 hour. Combine juice with seltzer; transfer to rind.

CUCUMBER, MINT & MELON PUNCH

A fruity, minty, refreshing punch for a summer party. The mix of juicy honeydew, cantaloupe and watermelon chunks make this the ultimate cooler to beat the heat

1 large cucumber , peeled and chopped into small chunks
small bunch mint , leaves picked
500ml vodka
juice 6 lime , plus wedges to serve
200g white caster sugar
1-2 small melons (we used 1/2 honeydew, 1/2 cantaloupe and 1/2 watermelon)
1l sparkling water , chilled

Steps:

  • Put the cucumber and half the mint in a large bowl or jug, and pour over the vodka. Cover and leave to steep for at least 24 hrs or for up to 1 week in the fridge, stirring every few days. Strain through a fine sieve.
  • Pour the vodka, lime juice and sugar into a larger jug. Stir well.
  • Using a melon baller, scoop out as many melon balls as you can. Add them to the jug and leave to steep for 30 mins-1 hr in the fridge. Top up with sparkling water and add the remaining mint leaves just before serving with extra lime wedges.

This is a refreshing drink that is great with a spicy meal. Very versatile because you can use whatever melons you have on hand, or combine 2 or 3 kinds.

4 cups cubed melon (cantaloupe, honeydew or seedless watermelon)
1 cup orange juice
1/3 cup water
2 tablespoons sugar
ice cube
fresh mint sprig, optional

Steps:

  • In a food processor or blender, place half of melon cubes and orange juice; cover and process until smooth.
  • Strain into a pitcher.
  • In a food processor or blender, place remaining melon, water and sugar; cover and process until smooth.
  • Strain into first mixture.
  • Stir until combined.
  • Serve over ice and garnish with mint sprigs, if desired.

MELON & CUCUMBER PUNCH

Perfectly ripe Galia melon, orange liqueur and Pimm's pump this punch with summery flavour

1 Galia melon
juice 1 lemon
100ml Pimm's
50ml orange liqueur (we used Cointreau)
750ml white wine
½ cucumber , sliced
small bunch mint
300ml sparkling water or sparkling wine
ice

Steps:

  • Cut the melon in half and scoop out and discard the seeds. Using a melon baller cut the fruit into spheres and place in a large punch bowl. Add the lemon juice, Pimm's, orange liqueur and white wine then chill in the fridge for 1-2 hrs.
  • To serve, add the cucumber pieces, mint sprigs and top with sparkling water and ice.

3 cups seeded watermelon, cut into 1 1/2-inch pieces
1 1/2 cups white vermouth
1 1/2 tablespoons superfine sugar
3 cups crushed ice
Edible pansies, for garnish

Steps:

  • Place watermelon, vermouth, and sugar in a blender; process until watermelon has been liquefied, about 10 seconds. Add ice; process 3 seconds more. Garnish with pansies, and serve in chilled glasses.

2 1/2 cups watermelon chunks
2 tablespoons lime juice
1/3 cup lemon juice
1/4 cup superfine sugar
2 1/2 cups seltzer, chilled

Steps:

  • In a blender, pulse the watermelon until smooth. Push it through a fine-mesh sieve. You should have at least 1 1/4 cups of juice.
  • In a pitcher, combine 1 1/4 cups of the watermelon juice, the lime and lemon juices and the sugar. Whisk until the sugar has dissolved. Refrigerate until chilled. Add the chilled seltzer and stir gently. Serve over ice.
