We love crab cooked many ways here in Southern Maryland. This is one of my family's favorites. They are golden and crispy on the outside, smooth and savory on the inside! We do not use cocktail or tartar sauce, but feel free to use them if you like. If you use frozen crab meat, drain it well before using. You may also make...

1 Tbsp onion, minced fine
1 Tbsp celery minced fine
1 Tbsp sweet red pepper, minced fine
1/2 tsp gsp (equal parts garlic, salt, pepper mix)
1/2 tsp Old Bay seasoning
1/2 tsp dry mustard
2 Tbsp flour
1 egg
1 lb lump crab meat, fresh
1 c panko bread crumbs
oil for deep frying

Steps:

  • 1. Heat oil on medium-high until droplets of water sizzle and pop.
  • 2. Mix together the vegetables and crab meat.
  • 3. Sprinkle spices and flour over crab mixture, stir until coated.
  • 4. Add beaten egg and mix until just combined.
  • 5. Form 8 balls out of crab mixture using a large cookie scoop.
  • 6. Gently roll each ball in panko crumbs and set on a plate.
  • 7. Gently put them in the hot oil
  • 8. Cook about 5-7 minutes, when they begin to float turn them over with a slotted spoon.
  • 9. Cook 4-5 minutes more until golden brown.
  • 10. Remove from oil and place on a paper towel to drain.
  • 11. Cool just a few minutes and serve plain or with your choice of sauce.

I found this in my mother's recipes and it is so simple and a real crowd pleaser!! 8) (Prep time includes refrigerating time).

Number Of Ingredients 12

fine dry breadcrumb
6 1/2 ounces crabmeat
1/2 cup milk
2 tablespoons flour
1 tablespoon butter
2 beaten eggs
1/2 teaspoon onion, minced
1/2 teaspoon finely chopped parsley
1/2 teaspoon mustard
1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon salt
1 dash pepper

Steps:

  • Melt the butter, and blend in the flour, then milk.
  • Cook until thickened, stir continuously.
  • Cut the crabmeat into small pieces, removing fiber.
  • Combine crabmeat with the spices, onion, parsley, and Worcestershire to cream sauce.
  • Lightly sprinkle the breadcrumbs on bottom of pan.
  • Spread the mixture in pan and chill for 1/2 hour.
  • When chilled, mold the mixture into small balls and roll in fine bread crumbs.
  • Then dip in beaten egg, and re-coat in crumbs.
  • Fry in deep fat about 350F, or until lightly browned.
  • Drain on paper towels, stick tooth-picks in and serve!

2 large eggs, well beaten
Optional: 3 to 4 tablespoons onion, finely chopped
1/2 cup cracker crumbs
4 tablespoons mayonnaise
1 tablespoon prepared mustard
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1/2 teaspoon Kosher salt, or seasoned salt or Old Bay seasoning
1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1/2 cup of breadcrumbs
1 to 2 cups of vegetable oil, for frying

Steps:

  • Enjoy.

4 tablespoons self-rising flour
1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
2 tablespoons mayonnaise
1 tablespoon Old Bay Seasoning
4 drops hot pepper sauce
1/8 teaspoon lemon juice

Steps:

  • Put crabmeat in a bowl and gently sort through it for pieces of shell with a 2-pronged fork. Remove shell. Add all ingredients and mix gently until thoroughly blended. Form into balls. Deep fry until golden.

1 lb lump crab meat, special or claw**can substutue imitation crab meat**
1 large egg, whisked
2 Tbsp mayonaisse
2 tsp mustard
1 Tbsp chives, dried or fresh (green onion, finely chopped)
2 Tbsp bell peppers (multi color) chopped
2 tsp sriracha hot sauce (fav hot sauce)
1 tsp old bay seasoning (seafood seasoning of choice)
1 lemon zest, grated
1 c panko bread crumbs, divided
2 Tbsp parsley flakes
SPICY CRAB SAUCE
2/3 c mayonnaise
2 Tbsp ketchup
2 tsp sriracha sauce (more or less)
1 tsp grated ginger or ginger powder
1 tsp granulated garlic powder
1 tsp lemon juice
1 Tbsp sugar of choice
**for a large crowd, double all the ingredients**
**substitute cooked ground chicken or turkey for the non -seafood eaters. serve with a cranberry relish dipping sauce...perfect for the holidays**

  • 4. deep fry at 320 degrees for 3 minutes or until golden brown
  • 5. remove and drain oil
  • 6. serve with spicy crab sauce
