Preheat the oven to 180C/gas mark 4. You will need a shallow 2 litre ovenproof dish.
Heat a large flameproof casserole over a high heat and brown the minced beef all over. Make sure you break up the mince into small pieces as it browns.
Sprinkle over the flour, stir and blend in the port and beef stock, and bring to the boil, stirring until thickened. Add the Worcestershire sauce, redcurrant jelly, thyme and season with salt and pepper.
Remove from the oven and check the seasoning. Spoon into the ovenproof dish and leave to cool. Meanwhile, put the potatoes into a large saucepan, cover with water and boil until completely tender.
Cook in the preheated oven for about 30-35 minutes until lightly golden and bubbling around the sides.
