1 garlic clove
2 thick slices sourdough bread
½ tbsp oil
1 tbsp mixed seeds
1 tbsp parsley

Steps:

  • Heat the oven to 220C/200C fan/gas 7. Rub the whole garlic clove over both sides of the sourdough. Tear it into rough chunks and toss with the oil, a good pinch of salt and the seeds.
  • Spread out on a baking sheet and bake for 8-10 mins until golden and crisp. Mix with the chopped parsley. Sprinkle on soup or a salad for added crunch.

3 tablespoons butter
1 loaf thin white bread
1 bag semi sweet chocolate chips

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 300 degrees F.
  • In a shallow pan, melt butter slowly. Using your preferred cookie cutter, cut shapes from the white bread and brown in the butter. Be sure to lightly brown both sides. Remove and place croutons on a cookie sheet. Once all shapes are done, place cookie sheet into oven and "dry" thoroughly, making sure that the croutons are no longer soft in the middle. Melt the chocolate in the microwave, according to package instructions, and dip shapes into the chocolate. Place them on a piece of waxed paper to dry.

1 ounce bourbon, such as Four Roses
1/4 ounce cognac, such as Remy Martin VS
1/4 ounce fresh lime juice
1/4 ounce grade A maple syrup
1/4 ounce pimento dram
Small yellow or red maple leaf, washed, for garnish

Steps:

  • Add the pear puree, bourbon, cognac, lime juice, maple syrup and pimento dram to a mixing glass, add ice and shake vigorously in a cocktail shaker. Double-strain into a rocks glass over fresh ice, garnish and serve.

  • Divide dough into thirds. Shape each third into ball; flatten slightly. Wrap each in plastic food wrap; refrigerate 1 hour.
  • Working with one-third of dough at a time (keeping remaining dough refrigerated), shape dough into 1-inch balls. Place 2 inches apart onto ungreased cookie sheets. Flatten and shape balls into 2-inch acorns; squeeze bottom ends to form acorn tips. Roll 1/8 teaspoon dough into log shape; attach at top of acorn shape for stem. Repeat with each acorn. Sprinkle with sugar. Bake 9-11 minutes or until lightly browned. Remove to cooling racks; cool completely.
