LOKMA

Lokma image

These sweet, golden treats will take you to heaven! Sprinkle them with walnuts, sesame seeds, and cinnamon if desired.

Provided by Gracey

Time 1h5m

Yield 25

Number Of Ingredients 7

2 cups all-purpose flour
2 (.25 ounce) packages active dry yeast
1 large orange, zested and juiced
1 teaspoon salt
2 cups water
1 tablespoon honey, plus more for serving
2 cups vegetable oil, or as needed

Steps:

  • Combine flour, yeast, orange zest, and salt in a bowl. Add water and orange juice; stir for a couple minutes. Mixture should be easily stirred with a spoon, but not too watery. Add honey and stir some more. Cover with a clean kitchen towel and let rise in a warm place until dough has doubled in size and the surface has small bubbles, about 30 minutes.
  • Heat 2 inches of oil in a deep saucepan over medium heat.
  • Dip your hand in the dough and use your palm to squeeze out a small portion of dough between your thumb and index finger, like you are making a fist. Grab the dough ball off your hand with a spoon and carefully lower the ball into the hot oil. Repeat this procedure until the surface off the pan is comfortably filled with lokmas.
  • Fry, turning often, until lokma are golden and evenly cooked, 5 to 10 minutes. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate to drain. Repeat with remaining dough.
  • Drizzle lokma with as much honey as you like. Serve warm.
