Categories     bread

Time 1h

Number Of Ingredients 7

3 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 cup white granulated sugar
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 egg
1 11.2 ounce bottle of Guiness Draught beer

Steps:

  • In a large mixing bowl use a wire whisk to mix together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Add the egg and beer mixing with a spoon. (I don't use a mixer with this bread)
  • Generously spray a 9 x 5 loaf pan with cooking spray and add dough for bread. Bake in a preheated 350 degree oven for 45 to 50 minutes until brown on top
  • This bread will not be white because the beer is a dark beer. It smells great while baking and is wonderful with butter while still hot. Makes one loaf of bread

IRISH ALE AND CHEDDAR BREAD

Irish Ale and Cheddar Bread image

This Irish Beer and Cheddar Bread is incredibly moist and flavorful. Irish cheddar, butter and beer are all baked into a delicious and EASY quick bread. The beer and cheese flavor are subtle and the texture of this bread is similar to a drop biscuit.

LAZY IRISH BEER BREAD

Lazy Irish Beer Bread image

From me own lazy Irish grandmother who died at 100 years plus one day old on Saint Patricks Day back in 1968. I love the way it smells while baking. If you don't like the smell of beer, stay away from it. I also like that you can add it to an oven being used to make something else like a chicken etc. If the other item being baked or roasted requires 325F, just add an extra 10 minu

BEER BREAD

Beer Bread image

Per Google.com, the #1 recipe for Beer Bread in the world! There are a few recipes for beer bread out there, but none as simple (and tasty!) as this one. You can even mix it in the baking pan for easy cleanup. This is sensational when served with soups or just as a snack, but don't expect it to be around very long when your family gets a taste of it! Be sure to use a sheet pan on the shelf below the pan to catch any excess butter that may drip during cooking.

Time 1h3m

Yield 6-8 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 6

3 cups flour (sifted)
3 teaspoons baking powder (omit if using Self-Rising Flour)
1 teaspoon salt (omit if using Self-Rising Flour)
1/4 cup sugar
1 (12 ounce) can beer
1/2 cup melted butter (1/4 cup will do just fine)

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  • Mix dry ingredients and beer.
  • Pour into a greased loaf pan.
  • Pour melted butter over mixture.
  • Bake 1 hour, remove from pan and cool for at least 15 minutes.
  • UPDATED NOTES: This recipe makes a very hearty bread with a crunchy, buttery crust. If you prefer a softer crust (like a traditional bread) mix the butter into the batter instead of pouring it over the top.
  • Sifting flour for bread recipes is a must-do. Most people just scoop the 1 cup measure in the flour canister and level it off. That compacts the flour and will turn your bread into a "hard biscuit" as some have described. That's because they aren't sifting their flour! If you do not have a sifter, use a spoon to spoon the flour into the 1 cup measure. Try it once the "correct" way and you will see an amazing difference in the end product.
  • I have had many email from you kind folks about using non-alcoholic beverages instead of beer. That is fine to do but I highly recommend adding a packet of Dry Active Yeast or 2 teaspoons of Bread (Machine) Yeast so that you get a proper rise.
  • The final result should be a thick, hearty and very tasteful bread, NOT A BRICK! ;).
  • Thank you all for the incredibly nice comments and those of you who left a bad review - learn to sift sift SIFT! You will be amazed at the results you get.

IRISH BEER BREAD

Irish Beer Bread image

From Beatrice Ojakangas' book, Great Holiday Baking Book. This is a quick bread that's great for snaking or for serving with a meal. The bread is delicious served warm from the oven or served at room temperature. St. Patrick's Day, March 17th, is named after St. Patrick, the British-born monk who is credited with driving the snakes out of Ireland. Patrick converted the Irish to Christianity and is said to have used the green shamrock (which means "little clover" in Gaelic) as a visual aid to illustrate the doctrine of the trinity, three holy entities in one. As a result, the shamrock and the color green have become symbols of St. Patrick's Day.

Time 1h

Yield 2 Loaves

Number Of Ingredients 8

2 cups whole wheat flour
2 cups all-purpose flour
4 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup unsalted butter, cut into pieces (1 stick)
1 large egg, beaten
1 1/2 cups beer (one 12-ounce bottle)

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375°F
  • Prepare two 8- or 9-inch round cake pans by lightly greasing.
  • In large bowl, combine the flours, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Cut the butter into the dry ingredients until completely blended inches Mix in the egg and beer all at once until a stiff dough is formed. If mixing by hand, turn out onto a floured board and knead until smooth, 1 to 2 minutes.
  • Divide the dough in half. Shape each into a round loaf; place each loaf into a prepared pan. Press down to flatten until each is about 7 inches in diameter. Using a sharp knife, slash a deep cross in the top of each loaf, making the cuts ½ inch deep and about 5 inches long.
  • Bake for 35 to 40 minutes or until a cake tester inserted in the center of the loaf comes out clean and dry.
