HOW TO BUILD A SAND-BASED PAVER PATIO IN JUST A FEW DAYS

  • Prepare the Bed. Outline the shape and size of the patio. If you plan to include right angles, check them carefully for accuracy. As you determine the exact size, you will need to plan for the paver you intend to use, making sure that there will be room for all the pavers in the pattern you want.
  • Cut Landscape Fabric. Measure and cut out a piece of landscape fabric large enough to cover the patio. This prevents weeds from working their way up through the gravel.
  • Establish the First Corner. Lay out a 2x6 perpendicular to the house and cut the lumber so it ends where you want the edge of the patio to be. Align the board with the string guides and drive a stake on the outside of it to hold it in place.
  • Build the Rest of the Frame. Continue to make the sand-based patio frame with the 2x6s, overlapping the corners as shown. Before you nail each board, use the triangulation method to make sure that everything is square.
  • Add Gravel and Level It. First, place a piece of expansion-joint material between the house and patio area. Then pour in enough gravel to provide a depth of about 1 inch throughout.

HOW TO LAY PATIO PAVERS ON DIRT IN 8 EASY STEPS

From betterlandscaping.com
  • Identify and Measure the Site. Before installing the pavers, you must ensure that the ground is ready. Plot out the section you intend to install pavers on and outline it with the stakes using the measuring tape.
  • Excavate the Paving Area. Ensure that you remove any grass or weeds. Use a shovel to dig deep and get rid of the roots to avoid future growth. The excavated section should be deep enough to take in gravel, sand, and the pavers.
  • Level the Paver Base With Dirt. For your pavers to line up well, you should place them on a level surface (using a layer of sand). Also, make sure you get clean dirt from a reputable supplier to avoid topsoil.
  • Building the Paver Base. Fill the excavated section with about six inches of gravel. Next, spread the base material evenly across the paving area before wetting it using a garden hose.
  • Lay the Geotextile Fabric Over The Soil. The next crucial step is placing pieces of landscaping or geotextile fabric, mainly PVC. This is one step you cannot afford to skip!
