Another version of chocolate trifle recipe with coffee liqueur added to the brownies for a different rich flavor.

1 (19.8 ounce) package brownie mix
¼ cup water
½ cup vegetable oil
2 eggs
½ cup coffee-flavored liqueur (such as Kahlua®), or to taste
1 (3.9 ounce) package instant chocolate pudding and pie filling mix
2 cups cold milk
1 (12 ounce) container frozen whipped topping, thawed

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  • Mix the brownie mix, water, vegetable oil, and eggs together in a mixing bowl until smooth, and pour the batter into the prepared baking dish.
  • Bake in the preheated oven until a toothpick inserted into the middle of the brownies shows moist crumbs, 25 to 30 minutes. Set the brownies aside, and cool completely. Use a chopstick or the end of a wooden spoon to poke holes all over the brownies, about 1/2-inch apart; drizzle the coffee liqueur all over the brownies. Let the brownies stand 5 minutes to soak up the liqueur.
  • In a bowl, whisk the chocolate pudding mix with cold milk until thickened, about 2 minutes; allow to stand 5 more minutes to set.
  • To assemble dessert, cut the brownies up into small cubes. Layer 1/3 of the brownies into the bottom of a glass trifle bowl, and top with a layer of pudding, then a layer of whipped topping. Repeat twice more, ending with whipped topping. Chill at least 4 hours before serving.

1 box betty crocker chocolate fudge cake mix
1/3 - 1/2 c kahlua (personal preference)
1 box dream whip
1 pkg large box of instant chocolate pudding
1 large container of cool whip
6 skor or heath candy bars

Steps:

  • 1. Follow directions on the cake mix and bake as instructed in a 8x10 pan. Before you bake your cake set out your Cool Whip to become soft....
  • 2. After the cake as cooled poke several holes in it using a fork. Then pour your Kahlua over the entire cake and let set for at least one hour (overnight is also okay).
  • 3. After you have added the Kahlua to your cake start making the mousse. Follow the directions on the Dream Whip box (using all pkgs inside the box)this is where you also use the instant pudding mix. When it's done put in the refrigerator.
  • 4. Take a large zip loc bag and place your candy bars (out of their wrappers) inside the bag and smash with a small hammer or the side of a meat tenderizer. I laid a thin dish towel over the bag to help with holes not being made. Remove your mousse from the refrigerator to become room temperature.
  • 5. Take your cake and criss cross cut it into small squares. Do not worry about them staying perfect as it doesn't matter.
  • 6. Take your trifle dish (I bought one relatively inexpensive) and start layering. Lay down a nice layer of cake chunks, then a layer of mousse, then your Cool Whip and a layer of crushed candy bar and repeat. Your might have enough to make a small one as well. The extra cake is delicious the way it is as my family loved it as well it was so moist.

1 (16 ounce) package frozen whipped topping, thawed
3 (1.4 ounce) bars chocolate covered English toffee

Steps:

  • Prepare brownies according to package directions. Let cool.
  • Mix pudding according to package directions.
  • In a glass punch bowl, layer in the following order: 1/2 of the brownie, crumbled; 1/2 of the pudding; 1 toffee bar, crushed; 1/2 of the whipped topping.
  • Repeat layers in the same order. Save the last toffee bar to crumble and sprinkle on top before serving.
  • Refrigerate. Best if made the day before you serve it.

This is such a yummy and decadent dessert. It is very impressive looking also. I have gotten a lot of oohs and aahs over this trifle. People always say it looks like it takes a long time to make but it is actually quite quick and easy to put together.

1 box devil's food cake mix
1 (6 ounce) package instant chocolate pudding mix
2 cups milk
1 cup Kahlua
16 ounces Cool Whip or 16 ounces fresh whipped cream
1 package Skor English toffee bits or 6 Skor candy bars, crushed up

Steps:

  • Prepare cake according to the box.
  • Set aside to cool.
  • Cut the cake up into cubes.
  • Combine pudding mix, milk and Kahlua.
  • If it is too runny, set it aside in the fridge to allow it to thicken for 20 minutes.
  • It will make it easier to work with.
  • To assemble, use a pretty straight-sided glass bowl or trifle bowl.
  • Layer the bottom with 1/2 the cake cubes making sure to line the sides of the bowl.
  • I usually like to cut a few rectangular pieces to line the side with and then fill the inside with the cubes.
  • Pour 1/2 the the pudding over the the cake layer making sure to spread it to the side of the bowl so you can see the layer.
  • Spread 1/2 the Cool Whip on top of the pudding mix in the same manner.
  • Sprinkle 1/2 the Skors bits on top of the Cool Whip.
  • Repeat the layering with the rest of the ingredients ending with the Skors bits on top.
  • Chill overnight before serving.

1 cup Kahlua
2 (3 ounce) boxes instant chocolate pudding mix (4 serving size) or 2 (3 ounce) boxes vegetarian instant chocolate pudding mix

3 cups Cool Whip, thawed

Steps:

  • Prepare, bake and cool cake in a 9 x 13 inch pan according to package directions.
  • Poke holes in cake with fork and pour KAHLUA over top.
  • Refrigerate several hours or overnight and cut cake into cubes.
  • In a large bowl, prepare pudding mixes with milk according to package directions.

1 1/2 cups milk
1/2 cup Kahlua
6 (1 1/8-ounce) Heath bars, frozen wrapped
2 cups heavy whipping cream, whipped

Steps:

  • Bake the cake in a 13 by 9-inch baking pan according to the package's directions. Pour pudding into a bowl and add milk and Kahlua; mix well. Leave Heath bars in wrappers and pound with a hammer to crush.
  • In a very large pretty Trifle dish or glass bowl, layer in this order:
  • 1/2 the cake cubes
  • 1/2 the pudding mixture
  • 1/2 the whipped cream
  • 1/2 the Heath bars
  • Repeat layers. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight.

1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
1 (8 ounce) container frozen whipped topping, thawed

Steps:

  • Prepare brownie mix according to package directions and cool completely. Cut into 1 inch squares.
  • In a large bowl, combine pudding mix, water and sweetened condensed milk. Mix until smooth, then fold in 8 ounces whipped topping until no streaks remain.
  • In a trifle bowl or glass serving dish, place half of the brownies, half of the pudding mixture and half of the 12 ounce container of whipped topping. Repeat layers. Shave chocolate onto top layer for garnish. Refrigerate 8 hours before serving.

  • Bake cake according to package directions. Cool. Prepare pudding according to package directions; set aside. , Crumble cake; reserve 1/2 cup. Place half of the remaining cake crumbs in the bottom of a 4-1/2- or 5-qt. trifle dish or decorative glass bowl. , Layer with half of the coffee, half of the pudding, half of the whipped topping and half of the crushed candy bars. 4 boxes instant chocolate pudding mix or 4 boxes chocolate mousse mix
1 (8 ounce) container frozen whipped topping, thawed
1 box chocolate cake mix (or your own cake recipe)
1 cup Kahlua (optional)
6 Skor candy bars or 6 Heath candy bars, chopped (chocolate toffee bars)

Steps:

  • Prepare cake mix as directed, or make your own chocolate cake recipe and bake in a 9 x 13 inch pan.
  • When done, remove from the oven, poke holes in the cake and pour the kahlua over the cake.
  • Let cool.
  • Meanwhile prepare the pudding or mousse.
  • Tear or crumble the cake into pieces.
  • In a glass trifle bowl layer in this order: 1/3 of cake, 1/3 of pudding, 1/3 of whipped topping and 1/3 of candy bars.
  • Repeat layers ending with chopped candy bars on top.
  • Chill well.

I got this recipe from a city cookbook. It is absolutely delicious. Prep time includes cooking the cake. If you purchase a prepared store bought cake it would cut about 30 minutes off the prep time.

1 (16 3/4 ounce) package Pillsbury Moist Supreme dark chocolate cake mix (*see note)
3 eggs
1 1/4 cups water
1/3 cup oil
3 (3 1/2 ounce) packages instant chocolate pudding mix
4 1/2 cups milk
2/3 cup Kahlua
1 (12 ounce) container Cool Whip
3 Heath candy bars (crushed, **see note)

Steps:

  • Mix packaged cake mix with the 3 eggs, 1 1/4 cups water and 1/3 cup oil.
  • Prepare pudding using the 4 1/2 cups milk.
  • When cake is cool, cut into bitesize chunks and place 1/2 in a glass stemmed bowl, preferably with straight sides.
  • Sprinle top with 1/2 of the Kahlua Top with 1/2 of the chocolate pudding.
  • Top with 1/2 of the crushed Heath Bars.
  • Spread 1/2 of the Cool Whip over this.
  • Repeat all layers.
