ITALIAN SAUSAGE SANDWICHES - W/ONIONS AND PEPPERS image

I have been making this recipe for several years. Its easy to make,and it's good. My family and friends love it. You can use your own pasta sauce, or store bought. This time I used store bought. (I ran out of my pasta sauce.)

2 package(s) 18 ozs. each. italian sausage links, mild
2 tablespoon(s) olive oil
2 medium yellow onions, peeled and sliced into rings
2-3 large green bell pepper, seeded and sliced
1 can(s) 7 oz. mushrooms pieces & stems, drained
2 jar(s) 24 oz. each, pasta sauce. i used ragu traditional.(or use your own)
1 cup(s) water
1 tablespoon(s) kosher salt, or to taste
1 teaspoon(s) ground black pepper, or to taste
1 package(s) hamburger buns.

Steps:

  • Get all ingredients together.
  • Cut the links in half and remove skin.
  • Place olive oil in an electric skillet. Place links in skillet and turn skillet to 375 degrees.
  • Meanwhile, with sausage cooking, prepare the bell peppers and onions.
  • Cook sausage on one side until brown. Turn sausage over.
  • After turning sausage over, place onions on top of sausage. cook for about 2 minutes.
  • Place bell peppers, mushrooms and pasta sauce on top of onions. Pour 1 cup of water on top. Turn electric skillet down to 225 degrees.Simmer for about 5 hours. Covered.
  • Stir about once an hour, by taking a spatula and go underneath the sausage allowing the sauce and onions, peppers and mushrooms to flow underneath sausage.
  • After about 5 hours, take hamburger bun and place sausage with a fork on bottom bun, then place sauce and peppers, onions and mushroom on top of sausage. Take and cover with top of bun. ENJOY!!!

1 1/2 pounds Italian sausage
2 green peppers, sliced
1/2 cup water
2 onions, sliced
2 tablespoons olive oil
2 long hard rolls

Steps:

  • Place sausage in hot cast iron skillet and brown on all sides. Add water, cover and let steam for 5 to 8 minutes or until sausages are no longer pink in the middle. Remove to plate. Drain off any remaining water from skillet. Add olive oil to same skillet along with peppers and onions. Cook over medium heat until soft, about 20 minutes. Place sausage in a roll with peppers and onions. Serve.

6 (4 ounce) links sweet Italian sausage
2 tablespoons butter
1 yellow onion, sliced
½ red onion, sliced
4 cloves garlic, minced
1 large red bell pepper, sliced
1 green bell pepper, sliced
1 teaspoon dried basil
1 teaspoon dried oregano
¼ cup white wine

Steps:

  • Place the sausage in a large skillet over medium heat, and brown on all sides. Remove from skillet, and slice.
  • Melt butter in the skillet. Stir in the yellow onion, red onion, and garlic, and cook 2 to 3 minutes. Mix in red bell pepper and green bell pepper. Season with basil, and oregano. Stir in white wine. Continue to cook and stir until peppers and onions are tender.
  • Return sausage slices to skillet with the vegetables. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer 15 minutes, or until sausage is heated through.

1 pound sweet Italian sausage links
3 bell peppers (green, yellow and/or red), sliced
1 large yellow onion, sliced into rings

1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1 (24 ounce) jar Classico® Tomato and Basil Sauce
4 fresh Italian sandwich rolls

Steps:

  • Heat the oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the sausages; cook until browned on all sides, following cooking instructions indicated on the packaging. Remove sausages from the pan. Drain grease, leaving about a tablespoon for the vegetables.
  • Cook peppers and onions in skillet over medium heat until they begin to soften. Add garlic, salt, and pepper and cook one more minute.
  • Stir in Classico Tomato & Basil Sauce. Increase heat until sauce begins to boil; reduce heat and simmer over low heat.
  • Cut the sausages into 1-inch pieces; add to the pan and stir to combine. Cook until the sauce has thickened and the peppers and onions are soft, about 10 minutes.
  • Serve in bowls or on rolls as sandwiches.

1 Tbsp. olive oil
1 each green and red pepper, cut into strips
1 onion, cut lengthwise in half, then sliced crosswise
4 Italian sausage links (1 lb.)
1 cup CLASSICO FAMILY FAVORITES Traditional Pasta Sauce
4 French bread rolls, partially split, toasted
1 cup KRAFT Shredded Mozzarella Cheese

Steps:

  • Heat oil in large skillet on medium-high heat. Add peppers and onions; cook and stir 5 to 7 min. or until crisp-tender. Remove vegetables from skillet.
  • Cook sausage in same skillet 4 min. on each side or until evenly browned on both sides. Add pasta sauce; stir. Cover; simmer on medium-low heat 10 min. or until sausage is done (160°F).
  • Return cooked vegetables to skillet; stir. Cook 1 to 2 min. or until heated through, stirring occasionally.
  • Remove sausage links from skillet; place on cutting board. Cut each sausage lengthwise in half, being careful to not cut all the way through to bottom of link. Open sausage links; place, cut sides down, on bottom halves of rolls. Top with cooked vegetable mixture and cheese.
