This versatile butter turns simple vegetables into stunning side dishes - add a pat or two to green beans, snap peas, asparagus, carrots, and parsnips. The sweetness from the honey also makes it perfect for spreading on dinner rolls, breakfast breads or bagels, and for topping pancakes, French toast and waffles. Use toasted sesame oil and sesame seeds to bump up the sesame flavor.

1 cup salted butter, room temperature
2 tablespoons honey
1 teaspoon toasted sesame oil
3 tablespoons lightly toasted sesame seeds (or a mix of black and white sesame seeds)

Steps:

  • Place the butter in a medium mixing bowl and, with an electric mixer (fitted with the paddle) or wooden spoon, beat until light and fluffy.
  • Scrape down the sides.
  • Add the honey, sesame oil and sesame seeds and beat to incorporate, scraping down the sides.
  • Taste for salt.
  • Scrape into a small bowl, serving crock or butter molds and cover tightly or shape into a long roll in grease-proof paper (plastic, wax or parchment) for storing and slicing as needed.

1/4 pound butter, softened at room temperature
1 cup powdered sugar
1/4 cup honey
1/2 cup egg whites
1 cup sifted all-purpose flour
1/8 cup white sesame seeds

Steps:

  • Cream butter and sugar using a paddle. Add honey and mix. Add whites and mix. Add flour and mix. A proper tuile batter is smooth. On a fiberglass mat or parchment paper, spread tuile batter evenly and thinly into 5 to 6-inch rounds by using a wet finger, circling outward. Sprinkle with sesame seeds. Bake at 300 degrees until tuiles are brown. Check often. Tuiles can be shaped when they are still hot. Place them in muffin tins or ramekins to form a cup shape. Work quickly.

This is high in fibre. I found the recipe in a Supermarket magazine and posted it here for future use and safekeeping. Update: Sharon123 kindly chose to make these for the Photo Swap, but she had problems with them falling apart (see her review). I have since tried them myself and increased the amount of butter (the original called for 3 1/2 oz), which seems to have solved the problem. Make sure you let them cool completely before trying to lift them out of the pan or pick them up. They will set and stick once cold. I actually made mine in a 9inch springform, which gave me the advantage that I could get right at them after taking the outer ring of.

3 1/2 ounces clear runny honey
6 ounces butter
2 ounces brown sugar
3 1/2 ounces sesame seeds
6 ounces porridge oats
2 ounces pecan nuts, chopped

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 180°C/350°F/Gas 4.
  • Grease a shallow square 8inch cake tin and line with baking paper.
  • In a small pan, melt the butter, honey and sugar together, over low heat, until sugar is dissolved.
  • Remove from heat and add the other ingreadients, mix together.
  • Pour into cake tin and level the top with the back of a metal spoon.
  • Bake for 30 minutes.
  • Remove from oven and cut into squares whilst still warm.
  • Remove from tin once completely cooled, this is important, if you lift them before they are completly cooled they will crumble.
