This is a cheap homemade play dough recipe. It's a little different texture than plan flour and salt play dough.

Number Of Ingredients 4

Ingredients

1 1/2 cups cornmeal
1 cup salt
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup water, cold

Steps:

Place all of the ingredients in a medium bowl and blend them together into a dough.
Additional water may be added if the mixture is not pliable enough.
The dough will keep for 4-6 weeks if stored in an airtight plastic container.

Use this dough to make our Lemon-Chamomile Cream Pie.

Yield Makes one 9-inch crust

Number Of Ingredients 6

Ingredients

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
3/4 cup yellow cornmeal, preferably medium-ground
3/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 teaspoon sugar
6 ounces (3/4 cup) cold unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
1/4 cup ice water

Steps:

Pulse flour, cornmeal, salt, and sugar in a food processor to combine. Add butter, and process until mixture resembles coarse meal, about 10 seconds. With the machine running, add ice water in a slow, steady stream until dough just begins to hold together (no longer than 30 seconds).
Shape dough into a disk. Wrap in plastic, and refrigerate until firm, at least 1 hour (or up to 2 days).

2 tablespoons cream of tartar
1/2 cup salt
2 cups water
2 tablespoons canola oil
Food coloring

Steps:

In a large saucepan, combine the flour, cream of tarter and salt. Gradually add the water and oil. Cook and stir over medium heat for 3-5 minutes or until a ball forms., Cool. Divide dough and knead in colors as desired. Store in airtight containers or resealable plastic bags.

Mix with hands, kind of like you are kneading bread. It will be pretty sticky at first, but keep mixing it until a firm dough starts to form. If this doesn't happen after about a minute, add in a little more corn starch. You don't want it to be sticky when you are done.
