(Herman Starter) Sweet Rolls image

These cinnamon sweet rolls are made with the famous Herman starter. If you don't have your own hanging out in your fridge, search for "Herman starter" on Recipezaar to get one rolling. Delicious! Number Of Ingredients 12

1 cup herman starter, twice-fed
1 cup all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup light brown sugar (I use dark brown)
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1 cup light brown sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 cup butter, softened
1/4 cup pecans (or other nuts)

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 425 and grease a pie or round cake pan.
  • Mix together flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, 1/4 c brown sugar, oil, & Herman.
  • Place on floured surface and knead lightly.
  • Shape into rolls and place in greased pie or cake pan.
  • Stir together the other 1/4 c brown sugar, cinnamon, butter, and nuts to make the topping. Sprinkle over rolls. Bake 15-20 minutes or until brown.

2 cups Herman Sourdough Starter
3 cups all-purpose flour
½ teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon salt
3 teaspoons baking powder
2 eggs, beaten
½ cup margarine
1 cup white sugar
3 teaspoons ground cinnamon
2 tablespoons raisins
2 tablespoons chopped walnuts

Steps:

  • In a large bowl combine Herman Sweet Sourdough Starter, flour, baking soda, salt, baking powder and eggs until well blended.
  • Knead dough in bowl for 5 to 7 minutes, or until mixture is smooth.
  • Let rise in warm place until doubled. Punch down. On a lightly floured surface, press dough into a 10 x 20 inch rectangle. Combine melted margarine, sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl. Spread mixture over dough. Sprinkle with walnuts or raisins, if desired.
  • Starting on long side, roll up dough, jellyroll fashion. Press ends together to make a seam. Cut in 1-inch slices and place in an ungreased, 11x14 inch cake pan. Allow rolls rise to double their size.
  • Bake in a preheated 325 F oven (165 degree C) for 20 to 25 minutes, until lightly browned.

2 cups all-purpose flour, or more if needed
1 envelope Fleischmann's® RapidRise Yeast
2 tablespoons sugar
½ teaspoon salt
½ cup milk
¼ cup water
2 tablespoons butter OR margarine

Steps:

  • Combine 3/4 cup flour, undissolved yeast, sugar and salt in a large bowl. Heat milk, water and butter until very warm (120 degrees to 130 degrees F). Add to flour mixture. Beat 2 minutes at medium speed of electric mixer, scraping bowl occasionally. Add 1/4 cup flour; beat 2 minutes at high speed. Stir in enough remaining flour to make soft dough. Knead on lightly floured surface until smooth and elastic, about 8 to 10 minutes. Cover; let rest 10 minutes.
  • Divide dough into 12 equal pieces; shape into balls. Place in greased 8-inch round pan. Cover; let rise in warm, draft-free place until doubled in size, about 30 minutes.
  • Bake in preheated 375 degrees F oven for 20 minutes or until done. Remove from pan; brush with additional melted butter, if desired. Serve warm.
