GINA'S CHEDDAR AND HERB BISCUITS

Number Of Ingredients 10

2 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
2 tablespoons freshly chopped chives
1 tablespoon freshly chopped parsley leaves
3/4 cup grated sharp yellow Cheddar
1 cup buttermilk
4 tablespoons butter, melted

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a large bowl, mix flour, baking powder, salt, sugar, and cayenne together using a whisk. Add the herbs, cheese and buttermilk. Stir together until dough forms. Once dough has formed, using an ice cream scooper, scoop out dough onto baking tray. With a brush, lightly butter tops. Bake for 15 minutes.

This was fantastic with spaghetti, my family loved it... in fact my husband tried to eat the whole thing. Keep in mind though, we love garlic at our house. If you are not a fan of strong garlic, streamline the amount until you are comfortable with it.

cooking spray
½ cup butter, melted
2 teaspoons dried parsley
2 teaspoons dried rosemary, crushed
2 teaspoons dried basil
7 cloves garlic, crushed and chopped
2 (10 ounce) cans refrigerated biscuit dough

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Spray a fluted tube pan (such as a Bundt® with cooking spray.
  • In a bowl, mix together the melted butter, parsley, rosemary, basil, and garlic. Separate the biscuits, and dip each biscuit into the butter and herbs; place biscuits in a random pattern into the prepared pan. If there is any unused butter mixture, pour it over the biscuits.
  • Bake in the preheated oven until the bread is browned and cooked through in the center, 15 to 20 minutes. Remove from oven, and invert the pan on a cutting board; the bread will fall out of the pan in one piece. Serve by pulling the bread apart into individual servings.

2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 pinch salt
1 ½ teaspoons white sugar
1 ½ teaspoons dried thyme
1 ½ teaspoons dried savory
1 teaspoon kelp powder
1 tablespoon dried parsley
1 tablespoon dried basil
⅓ cup unsalted butter, softened
¾ cup buttermilk

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 450 degrees F (230 degrees C). Whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, sugar, thyme, savory, kelp, parsley, and basil in a large bowl.
  • Cut in the butter with a knife or pastry blender until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Drizzle the buttermilk slowly over the flour mixture while tossing lightly with a fork, just until the flour mixture is moistened. Turn the dough out onto a floured board, and knead 4 to 5 times. Pat the dough into a circle, 3/4 inch thick, and cut biscuits with a 2 inch cookie cutter. Place biscuits 2 inches apart on a baking sheet.
  • Bake in the preheated oven until golden brown, about 8 minutes. Serve warm.

Number Of Ingredients 11

1 package (1/4 ounce) active dry yeast
1 cup warm water (110° to 115°)
3 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoons butter, melted
1 tablespoon dried parsley flakes
1-1/2 teaspoons dried basil
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
2-1/2 to 3 cups all-purpose flour

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water. Stir in the sugar, butter, parsley, basil, salt, oregano, thyme, garlic powder and 1 cup flour. Beat until smooth. Stir in enough remaining flour to form a soft dough. Turn onto a lightly floured surface; knead until smooth and elastic, about 5-6 minutes. Place in a large bowl coated with cooking spray, turning once to coat top. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 1 hour., Punch dough down; turn onto a lightly floured surface. Shape into loaf. Place in a 9x5-in. loaf pan coated with cooking spray. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 30 minutes. Bake at 375° for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from pan to a wire rack to cool.

I adapted an old sour cream bread recipe for this deliciously different pull-apart loaf that smells heavenly while baking. It has a light crust, tender interior and lots of herb and butter flavor. We think it's wonderful with a hot bowl of potato soup. -Katie Crill, Priest River, Idaho

Number Of Ingredients 11

1/2 cup water (70° to 80°)
1/2 cup sour cream
2 tablespoons butter, softened
3 tablespoons sugar
1-1/2 teaspoons salt
3 cups bread flour
2-1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
GARLIC HERB BUTTER:
1/4 cup butter, melted
4 garlic cloves, minced
1/4 teaspoon each dried oregano, thyme and rosemary, crushed

Steps:

  • In bread machine pan, place the first 7 ingredients in order suggested by manufacturer. Select dough setting (check dough after 5 minutes of mixing; add 1-2 tablespoons of water or flour if needed). , When cycle is completed, turn dough onto a lightly floured surface. Cover and let rest for 15 minutes. Divide dough into 36 pieces. Shape each piece into a ball. In a shallow bowl, combine butter, garlic and herbs. Dip each ball in mixture; place in an ungreased 9x5-in. loaf pan. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 45 minutes., Bake at 375° for 35-40 minutes or until golden brown (cover loosely with foil if bread browns too quickly). Remove from pan to a wire rack. Serve warm.
