Steps:
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, salt and cream of tartar.
- Add the vegetable oil and boiling water, and using a spatula, mix until combined. Once it's cool enough to handle, use your hands to knead the playdough in the bowl until it becomes smooth, about 2 minutes. (It may appear wet at first but will dry as you knead and the water gets fully absorbed.)
- Turn the playdough onto your work surface and knead it until it is smooth, about 2 minutes.
- Use the homemade playdough as is, or if desired, color with food coloring of your choice. (If using food coloring, it's best to mix the playdough in a bowl while wearing disposable gloves to avoid coloring your hands.)

GOOF OFF CLAY (PLAY DOUGH - NOT EDIBLE)
Best home made play dough recipe! No endless stirring over the stove top. No baking in the oven. I got this recipe when I was a preschool teacher and have tresured it. GREAT texture....only thing it is missing is the smell of store bought play dough. It calls for Kool Aid to color and scent...but personally I never make it with Kool Aid because I don't want my children to think it is food - it is hard enough to keep kids from eating play dough. But the new neon food colors work really good to get nice color. (DOES NOT AIR DRY OR BAKE WELL)

Steps:
- Mix the dry ingredients together.
- Add oil and water - if you wanted different colors, you can add the food color after the dough is mixed, but it is easier to mix it in with the water.
- Mix the ingredients quickly to blend everything. The dough should be stiff and begin to form a ball.
- Let dough cool slightly, then drop onto a floured surface and knead until smooth, about 5 minute.
- Store in an air tight container for hours of fun whenever you want it!

THE BEST PLAY DOUGH RECIPE
This recipe is from my children's preschool art teacher. This truly is the best ever playdough recipe. It will last for several months in an airtight container. No refrigeration is needed. In addition to the food coloring you can add extracts or spices to give it different smells, though these can change how much flour you need to add.

PUMPKIN PIE PLAY DOUGH (NON-EDIBLE)
Source: FamilyFun Magazine Quote: "Your little one might not be old enough to bake holiday desserts, but they can still celebrate the season with this pumpkin-inspired play dough. In honor of the beloved fall fruit, we dyed the dough orange and added pumpkin pie spice and cinnamon to it, which makes it smell -- but not taste -- good enough to eat."

Steps:
- Combine the dry ingredients in a nonstick saucepan.
- Add the oil, water, and food coloring and whisk until smooth.
- Stirring constantly with a rubber spatula, cook the mixture over medium heat until it forms a ball, about 3 to 4 minutes.
- Turn the dough onto a counter, let it cool slightly, then knead the dough until it has a smooth texture, about 1 minute.
- The dough will keep up to a week in a ziplock bag.
- To make pumpkin stems, place some pasta (suggested: fusilli) in a ziplock bag.
- Add five drops of green food coloring and a teaspoon of water.
- Seal the bag, then let your tot squish the pasta around until it's tinted. Pour the pasta onto a piece of waxed paper and let it dry for about five minutes before pressing it into your pumpkins.

PLAY DOH - PLAY DOUGH (NO STOVE TOP COOKING REQUIRED)
My daughter loves to play with play dough and she loves to make it with me, but I'm always worried about a hot stove. This recipe doesn't require cooking on the stove top, however care is still need. If your child is going to help, please note once the boiling water is added, it's HOT. It could easily burn hands even adult hands (I used heat resistant gloves). This makes heaps of play dough, approximately two kilograms. You could use more food colouring for a stronger colour or add glitter for a fun tone. For the bench flour you may need to add more or less depending on the dough

EDIBLE KOOL-AID PLAY DOUGH
I made this often as a preschool teacher and now make it regularly with my own children. Smells great and you can vary the colours depending on which flavour kool-aid you choose. My little girls current favourite is grape as it makes "purple playdough!" At Christmas we make it red or green and add peppermint extract and glitter! Orange at Halloween and we even found some Halloween coloured glitter.Pick up some seasonal cookie cutters from the dollar store and your all set. Lots of possibilities and FUN!
