SPICED GINGER SIMPLE SYRUP

Homemade spiced ginger simple syrup made with sugar (or panela/piloncillo), water, fresh ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and all spice.

Number Of Ingredients 6

2 ounce chunk of fresh ginger (crushed or grated)
2-3 cinnamon sticks
4 cloves
3 all spice berries
2 cups of sugar - could also use panela/piloncillo
2 cups of water (use less for a thicker syrup)

Steps:

  • Combine all the ingredients in a small saucepan and heat over low-medium heat.
  • Stir until the sugar is completely dissolved.
  • Reduce heat and simmer for about 30 minutes.
  • Let the syrup cool down and strain to remove the ginger and spices.
  • Use as needed.

1/4 pound ginger, peeled and thinly sliced (about 3/4 cup)
1 cup sugar
1 cup water

Steps:

  • Bring ginger, sugar, and water to a simmer in a small heavy saucepan over medium-low heat, stirring until sugar has dissolved, then gently simmer, uncovered, 30 minutes. Strain through a sieve and reserve ginger for another use (see cooks' note, below), then cool to room temperature.

Steps:

  • Gather the ingredients.
  • In a saucepan on medium heat, combine the sugar and water.
  • Stir constantly until the sugar is dissolved.
  • Add the ginger and continue to heat, bringing the syrup to a light boil.
  • Cover, reduce heat, and allow to simmer for about 15 minutes.
  • Remove from the heat and allow to cool and steep in the covered pan for about 1 hour or until it reaches your preferred taste.
  • Strain out the ginger and bottle under a tight seal.
  • Mix into your favorite drinks and enjoy!

1 cup sugar
1 tablespoon honey
1 (1 inch) piece fresh ginger root, sliced
1 cinnamon stick, broken into large pieces
8 whole cloves
½ teaspoon whole allspice berries
½ teaspoon whole peppercorns
½ teaspoon ground nutmeg

Steps:

  • In a saucepan over medium-high heat, combine water, sugar, and honey. Stir in ginger, cinnamon stick, cloves, allspice, peppercorns, and nutmeg; bring to a boil. Reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 25 to 30 minutes. Let cool for 20 minutes, then strain through a fine mesh sieve, or double layer cheesecloth.

2 cinnamon sticks (3 inches), broken into pieces
16 whole cloves
3 tablespoons coarsely chopped fresh gingerroot
1 teaspoon whole allspice
1 teaspoon whole peppercorns
2 cups sugar
2 cups water
2 tablespoons honey
1 teaspoon ground nutmeg

Steps:

  • Place the first 5 ingredients on a double thickness of cheesecloth; bring up corners of cloth and tie with string to form a bag. , In a large saucepan, combine the sugar, water, honey, nutmeg and spice bag; bring to a boil. Reduce heat; simmer, uncovered, until syrup reaches desired consistency, 30-45 minutes., Remove from the heat; cool to room temperature. Discard spice bag; transfer syrup to airtight containers. Store in the refrigerator for up to 1 month.

2 ounces fresh unpeeled ginger (about the size of the first part of your thumb)
1 cup water
1/2 cup sugar
2 pieces lemon zest

Steps:

  • Wash the ginger well in hot water. Using a Microplane zester, grate the ginger, carefully reserving the juice and pulp.
  • In a medium saucepan set over medium heat, bring the water and sugar to a gentle boil. Add the ginger and lemon zest, and remove the pan from the heat. Cover the pan and steep for about 45 minutes.
  • Strain the syrup through a fine-mesh strainer and let cool. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 14 days.

SPICY SIMPLE SYRUP

2 cups sugar (evaporated organic cane sugar from Trader Joe's works well)
4 cups water
12-15 cinnamon sticks, broken up
10 star anise pods
1/4 ounce whole allspice (a large handful)
1/8 ounce whole cloves
1 vanilla pod, sliced down the center and opened out
1 large ginger root, 4 to 6 ounces, grated.

Steps:

  • Place all ingredients except sugar and ginger in a large saucepan and bring to a boil. Turn down the heat and simmer, covered, for two hours. Remove from heat and stir in sugar until well dissolved. Cool to room temperature, then grate the ginger and stir in. Cover and set aside for at least 12 hours. Strain through a fine-mesh sieve into a sealable jar and refrigerate.

300g golden caster sugar
1 tbsp ground ginger
1 cinnamon stick
edible gold glitter (optional)
1 cinnamon stick

Steps:

  • Put the golden caster sugar, 200ml water and ground ginger into a saucepan. Add the cinnamon stick and bring to a gentle boil. Simmer for 5 mins until the sugar has dissolved, then stir in a little edible gold glitter, if you like. Pour into a 500ml sterilised bottle (see tip below).
  • To decorate, tie a cinnamon stick around the neck with a pretty ribbon, if you like. Will keep for up to 1 year.

  • Bring the sugar and water to a boil in a medium saucepan over medium-high heat, stirring to dissolve sugar. Add ginger; bring to a simmer. Remove from heat, and let steep 30 minutes. Pour syrup through a fine sieve into an airtight container; discard ginger. Refrigerate up to 1 month.
