This recipe came from the can of Ghirardelli Brand Sweet Ground chocolate and Cocoa (found with the baking supplies). They were so great that I made them twice in one day! I omitted the walnuts but added the chocolate chips.

2 eggs
3/4 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup butter or 1/2 cup margarine, melted
3/4 cup Ghirardelli sweet ground chocolate and cocoa
2/3 cup unsifted flour
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup walnuts, chopped
1 cup chocolate chips

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350°F.
  • Using a spoon, stir eggs, sugar, and vanilla; add butter.
  • Sift together Sweet ground chocolate, flour, salt and baking powder.
  • Stir into egg mixture.
  • Add nuts and/or chocolate chips.
  • Spread into 8" or 9" square baking pan.
  • Bake 20-30 minutes.
  • For chewy brownies use 8" pan and less baking time.
  • For cake like brownies use 9" pan and more baking time.
  • Cut into squares.

Everyone loves brownies! This classic simple and delicious recipe is all you need to satisfy your family's brownie cravings.

4 ounces Ghirardelli Semi-Sweet Chocolate Baking Bar
½ cup unsalted butter, cut into pieces
1 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
2 large eggs
¾ cup all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
¼ teaspoon baking powder
⅜ teaspoon salt
½ cup Ghirardelli Semi-Sweet Chocolate Baking Chips

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Butter and flour an 8-inch square baking pan.
  • Chop the semi-sweet chocolate baking bar into 1-inch pieces.
  • In the top of a double boiler or in a heatproof bowl over barely simmering water, melt the chopped chocolate and butter, stirring occasionally until smooth. Remove the pan from the heat and let cool to room temperature.
  • Stir the brown sugar and vanilla into the chocolate mixture. Add the eggs and mix well.
  • In a bowl, sift together flour, baking powder, and salt. Slowly fold the flour mixture into the chocolate mixture, mixing well until blended. Stir in the chocolate chips and pour the batter into the prepared pan.
  • Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, until a tester comes out clean. Remove from the oven and cool for at least 10 minutes before cutting into 2-inch squares.

  • Adjust an oven rack to the middle position and preheat oven to 425 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper for easy cleanup. Spread one side of each bread slice with about 1½ teaspoons butter and place 4 slices, buttered side down, on the prepared baking sheet. Spread about a quarter of the chocolate chips evenly on each of the 4 slices, leaving a ¼-inch border around the edges. Cover with the remaining bread slices, buttered side up.
  • Bake until the bottoms of the paninis are crisp and golden brown, 7-9 minutes. Remove the pan from the oven. Using a metal spatula, gently press down on sandwiches to spread the soft chips into melted chocolate. Carefully turn the sandwiches over and continue baking until the bottoms are crisp and golden, about 5 minutes longer. (Keep a close eye on it; the sandwiches go from golden brown to burnt quickly!) Let cool slightly, cut paninis in half and serve.
  • Note: If you don’t have salted butter, use unsalted and sprinkle a pinch of salt on top of the sandwiches.
