HOW TO RECHARGE YOUR CAR'S AC- AUTOZONE

From autozone.com
  • Determine Ambient Air Temperature. If the temperature of the air is 55°F or below, do not charge the vehicle. It is also always recommended to use a charging hose with a gauge.
  • Locate the Low-Side Service Port. This port is typically found on the line connecting the accumulator and compressor. The high side fitting is located between the AC compressor and condenser and is the larger of the two fittings.
  • Wipe Away Dust. Wipe away any dust with a clean rag and then remove the cap from low-side service port.
  • Attach the Charging Hose. Attach the charging hose to the low-side service port and ensure that you have a secure connection. If the hose does not attach easily you may be using the wrong port.
  • Add Refrigerant. Following the instructions on the refrigerant package, add refrigerant to the system.
  • Charge the System. After determining the correct pressures using the ambient air pressure chart, monitor the pressure readings constantly while charging the system.
  • Remove the Charging Hose. After the air conditioning system is charged to the proper pressure, remove the charging hose from the low-side service port, (or gauges) leaving the can attached to the charge hose, and store any additional refrigerant in a dry, cool spot.
  • Check the Service Port Cap Seal Before Reinstalling. Ensure that the seal beneath the cap does not have any cracks, nicks, or tears. This seal can be added protection if the Schrader valve ever formed a leak.

R134A - HOW TO RECHARGE YOUR CAR’S AC SYSTEM

From diyparts.com
  • Turn On Your Car and A/C. To recharge or top off the refrigerant in your car’s air conditioning system you will first need to turn your car on, turn your air conditioner on to the highest fan setting, set to the coldest setting and open the vehicle doors to prevent the air conditioner from shutting off when it gets cool in the cabin, letting the engine and AC system run for 5 minutes or so before adding refrigerant.
  • Locate Your Low-Pressure Port and Attach Your Gauge. In most cases, the Low Pressure Service Port access cap is marked with a letter “L” to help identify it.
  • Check the Compressor Clutch to See If It’s Engaging. The easiest way to see if your compressor clutch is engaging is to look for the belt pulley to be spinning.
  • Test Your A/C System Pressure. Now that the engine has been running and the AC turned on to it’s maximum cold and fan settings for 5 minutes or longer, you are going to check the level of your AC system’s pressure.
  • Disconnect The ZeroR® R134a AC Refrigerant Top Off Kit. That’s it! Don’t forget to put the cap back on the AC Low Side Port and most importantly, enjoy the cool air and savings of time and money!
