CLASSIC POUND CAKE RECIPE
A homemade pound cake is an easy dessert that uses just a few pantry staples!

Steps:
- Preheat oven to 325°F. Grease an 8x4 loaf pan.
- Cream butter, vanilla and sugar until very light and fluffy, about 7-8 minutes. Add eggs one at a time and beat to combine.
- Combine flour and salt. Add flour mixture a little bit at a time, beating just until combined.
- Pour batter into prepared pan and bake 60-70 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Cool completely.

my mom made a cake similar to this cake years ago and i lost the recipe. when i found this recipe, it taste so much like the cake my mom made. it is so moist and everyone loves it.

Steps:
- Mix all ingredients together except the flavorings. Mix well and then add the flavorings. Spray a bundt or tube pan with pam. Bake in a 350 degree oven for 45 minutes. Let cool before transfering to a plate.

- Cream butter, shortening, and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add eggs to mixture.
- Sift all-purpose flour and baking powder. Add to creamed mixture while alternating with sweet milk.
- Add rum, lemon, almond, and vanilla flavoring to mixture.
- Place mixture in well-greased 10-in. tube pan.
- Bake at 350 degrees for 1 1/2 hours or until done (may take a little longer).

- Preheat oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C). Grease a 10 inch tube pan. In a small bowl, combine flour and baking powder. Set aside. In a measuring cup, combine the milk and 1 teaspoon each coconut, lemon, rum, butter and vanilla extracts; set aside.
- In a large mixing bowl, cream butter, shortening and 3 cups sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs, and beat until smooth. Beat in flour mixture alternately with milk mixture, beginning and ending with flour mixture. Spoon mixture into prepared pan.
- Bake for 1 1/2 to 1 3/4 hours, or until cake tests done. Cool in pan on wire rack for 10 minutes.
- Turn cake out of pan onto wire rack. Place waxed paper under rack to catch glaze drippings. Slowly spoon Five Flavor Glaze onto top of hot cake. Cool completely.
- To make the Five Flavor Glaze: In a saucepan, combine 1/2 cup sugar, water and 1/2 teaspoon each coconut, lemon, rum, butter and vanilla extracts. Bring to a boil, stirring until sugar is dissolved.

- Use room-temperature ingredients. A cardinal rule of cake baking is to begin with room-temperature ingredients (unless otherwise called for in the recipe).
- Measure your flour properly. When it comes to pound cake, it’s all about ratios of ingredients. After all, pound cake got its name because early versions were made by using a pound each of flour, eggs, sugar, and butter (or another fat).
- Use the right pan (both in size and material) Don’t just grab the first pan you see in your pantry and pour in your pound cake batter. This is another moment for careful choices.
- Don’t overbake. Once the pound cake is in the oven, take a deep breath but don’t go too far away! The last thing you want is to forget about your cake and let it become toasted and dry.
- Use a cake soak. If the idea of soaking a cake is new to you, buckle up for a whole new baking adventure! Cake soaks or soaking syrups are flavorful liquids, usually simple-syrup based, that are brushed onto cake after it comes out of the oven.
- Serve with style. While I'm most definitely on Team Pound Cake, I’ll admit that it can be a bit unexciting if the cake is served all on its own.
