Faux French Fries with Ketchup image

We make these when we make the faux hamburgers. Kids love the fries and they look so real! I didn't post the hamburger recipe. Someone has already posted that. I just use York peppermint patties, green gum drops sliced and rolled out, yellow gumdrops, red icing, shredded green coconut for the lettuce, then put a drop of honey on top and sprinkle with sesame seeds.

1 - apple, any color or kind peeled
1 - tube red icing
- a few cupcake liners.

Steps:

  • Peel one apple per serving of 'fries'.
  • Slice the apple into thin strips like french fries.
  • Fold one cupcake liner in half into a half moon shape.
  • Stick fries down in the liner and arrange in a sticking up fashion.
  • Squirt red icing over them to look like ketchup.

Kids will love these! Requires 1 empty ketchup squeeze bottle, and 1 cardboard french fry container(ask politely and you shall receive)

1 loaf poundcake
1 (12 ounce) bag frozen raspberries, thawed or 2 cups fresh raspberries
2 tablespoons powdered sugar

Steps:

  • Trim off a thin layer of the cakes brown exterior crust.
  • Cut pound cake lengthwise into 1/4 inch slices turn slices on their sides and cut into 1/4 inch strips.
  • Trim to 4-5inch in length.
  • (if this sounds confusing just remember you are creating french fry shaped strips).
  • Arrange strips on cookie sheet and bake 350 for 10 minutes or until browned on top and bottom.
  • Turn strips bake 4 more minues or until remaining 2 sides are brown.
  • Cool arrange in fry container.
  • Place raspberries in a blender and puree (add a few T. water or lemon juice if necessary) add sugar t at a time to taste until tartness is gone place puree in a fine mesh strainer over a bowl force through strainer put puree in squeeze bottle,serve alongside fries.

A great April fool's day treat! I used Recipe#71360 for the breadstick dough and it worked perfectly!

1 (11 ounce) package refrigerated breadstick dough
2 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoons seedless strawberry jam

Steps:

  • Use kitchen scissors to bread dough into into 1/4-inch-wide sticks, use a crinkle cutter if you have one.
  • Roll all the sticks in sugar, then bake them on a cookie sheet until golden brown (6-8 minutes).
  • Leave them on the tray until they're cool.
  • For an authentic look, place fries in a fast-food fry sleeve (the cutoff end of a sealed envelope) and serving them with a side of "ketchup" (jam whisked with a fork to a smooth consistency).
