27 WATER GAMES FOR KIDS TO PLAY ALL SUMMER LONG

  • DIY Slip n’ Slide. Grab a plastic tablecloth from a discount store and pin it to the ground using tent stakes. Add water and, with a running start, slide down the lane.
  • Sponge Bulls-Eye! Paint target circles and point amounts on the ground. Using large, soaked sponges, attempt to hit the targets. The wet spots show your score in this water game.
  • Ping-Pong Pool. Throw an inflatable inner tube into the pool. Try to toss small balls into the center of the ring.
  • Ultimate Sprinkler. Make a giant square out of four pieces of equal-size PVC pipes, four corner connectors, and one hose connector. Have a grown-up use a small drill to punch a bunch of small holes in the pipe to create a sprawling sprinkler feature.
  • Pint-Size Picasso. Use slate remnants (or stones) as a canvas and a cup of water and paintbrush as your medium. The wet brush will allow your little one to create a masterpiece, which will quickly dry, allowing for infinite drawings.
  • Sink or Float Science. Work some science experiments into your water games with this educational activity. Get a deep, clear plastic bowl or bin, and then gather various items (penny, bottle cap, plastic lid, Lego, plastic doll shoe, and so on).
  • Excavating with Ice. Freeze some of your small toys, plastic bugs, and other small treasures in large ice cube molds or bowls. Once frozen, get some (safe) digging tools and a spray bottle to start the excavation process.
  • Hit the Mark. Float a few Frisbees upside down in a small kiddie pool. Have your little ones try to aim sponges at the Frisbee targets.
  • Backyard Bath. Take tub time for babies and toddlers outdoors with a kiddie pool, lots of bubble bath, and toys. The kids will enjoy the change of routine and scenery, and you probably will, too.
  • Blind Taste Test. Most water games involve getting soaking wet, but this one is more refreshing than sopping. Blindfold the kids and have them taste and guess at the flavors of summer.

10 WICKED WATER GAMES FOR KIDS (THAT WILL ENTERTAIN FOR HOURS!)

From mykidstime.com
Estimated Reading Time 5 mins
  • Make a Slip and Slide. You’ll need a big plastic sheet or tarpaulin spread out on the ground, ideally on a slope. Use a small amount of an inexpensive bottle of shampoo or liquid soap and drizzle over the tarp to make it slippy, then start the hose running.
  • Make Giant Bubbles to Stand Inside. Create your own bubble mix and see if you can blow giant bubbles big enough to stand inside! Pour enough bubble solution into a kiddie pool to cover the inside in at least an inch of liquid (if you keep it clean, you can scoop it out to save for later when you are done).
  • Water Painting. Keep younger ones occupied “painting” things with water – either pictures on ground, or get them to “paint” the shed or fence.
  • Play Water Balloon Dodgeball. Fill water balloons with water, divide the amount of balloons up and place them on opposite ends of the garden. Next split up into teams and stand facing each other.
  • Wet Sponge Relay. Divide into two teams and line up behind a starting line. Each team gets an empty bucket and a large sponge. They have to run to the finish line where there are 2 large buckets filled with water.
  • Water Limbo. Play water limbo with your garden hose, turn it on full and everyone has to limbo under the water stream. Once everyone has gone under, the stream gets lowered!
  • Water Tag. You’ll need a spray bottle, small bucket or water gun for each player. One player is “It”. You can only “tag” a person and get him to “freeze” by spraying him with water.
  • Wet Basketball. Set up a hoop in the garden. If you don’t have a basketball hoop, then string up a hula hoop. Divide into two teams and give each team a wet sponge.
  • Sprinkler Statues. Start with the sprinkler/hose turned off. Players have to move around the garden, jumping, dancing or striking funny poses. Then, when the sprinkler/hose is turned on, they have to freeze in position and get watered until the sprinkler/hose is turned off again.
  • Sponge Throw. You will need a bucket for each player, plus two empty “team buckets” and 12 small kitchen sponges (6 for each team)…and water obviously!
