No Roll Pie Crust Recipe | Shortbread Pie Crust image

This is no roll pie crust recipe the easiest way to make a pie crust from scratch! You mix up the ingredients in a saucepan and then press the dough into a pie pan to make this shortbread pie crust.

Provided by Kit

Categories     Dessert

Time 10m

Number Of Ingredients 5

3/4 cup of Salted Butter (1 1/2 sticks)
1/4 cup Granulated Sugar
1 tablespoon Powdered Sugar
1 3/4 cups All Purpose Flour
and a 9 inch pie pan

Steps:

  • Heat your oven to 350 degrees.
  • Melt the butter in saucepan.
  • Once the butter has melted, remove from heat and add both sugars and stir to combine. Then stir in flour.
  • You may want to let the dough cook for a little bit, but usually I find that it is too hot to handle right away. Press the dough onto the bottom and up the sides of a 9-inch pie pan. I like to prick the bottom of the crust so that it won't bubble up for crack.
  • If using a no-bake pie filling, bake the pie crust for 15 minutes or until lightly browned. If you are making a pie filling that needs to bake, there is no need to pre-cook the pie crust.

Provided by Jill Winger

Number Of Ingredients 4

1 1/4 cups unbleached, all purpose flour (whole wheat works but is less tender)
1/4 t sea salt (like this)
1/3 cup cold butter or lard (or firm coconut oil for a slightly tougher crust)
4-6 T cold water

Steps:

  • In a medium bowl, mix flour and salt together
  • Cut in the fat using a pastry blender or two knives. You can use a food processor if you'd like, just be sure not to over-process.
  • When the flour/fat mixture resemble coarse crumbs carefully add the water, one tablespoon at a time forming a rough ball (not a sticky mess!)
  • Generously flour countertop and roll out the dough until it's several inches larger than the diameter of your 9″ pie pan (you may need to flour the top of the dough as you roll, to prevent sticking and tearing)
  • Carefully fold the dough into quarters and place into your pan
  • Unfold
  • Trim around the edges (if needed), but leave an overhang around the edges of the pan
  • Gently fold excess dough under itself, then crimp edges to make pretty
  • Fill with your favorite pie filling and bake as directed, or refrigerate until you need it

EASY TO ROLL NO SHORTENING PIE CRUST

Easy to Roll No Shortening Pie Crust image

I've been looking for a pie recipe that doesn't use shortening but is easy to roll out. I don't like it when the dough won't hold together. This dough is easy to work with and that makes all the difference for my mental health. People complain about untangling Christmas lights, well I don't like pie dough that falls...

1 1/4 c all purpose flour, i like king arthur
1/4 tsp salt
1/3 c frozen butter, shredded
4-6 Tbsp cold water

Steps:

  • 1. Combine flour and salt. I like to use a whisk.
  • 2. Using a pastry blender or fork, cut frozen shredded butter into flour mixture until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Add water, 2 T at a time. (I put a cup of cold water with ice cubes and then add as I need it). Form into a ball.
  • 3. Generously flour countertop and roll out dough to fit a 9" pie pan. Be sure to flour the dough as you go so the roller doesn't stick. Roll the crust around the pin to lift and transfer into your pie plate. Trim edges as needed. Add desired pie filling and follow that recipe for appropriate bake times.

MY NO ROLL PIE CRUST

My No Roll Pie Crust image

The only pie crust I will use anymore. Its flaky and slightly sugary and oh so easy to do. Note: due to some major discrepencies please use a good quality oil, preferably a vegetable and a good name brand like Mazola, it may not seem like it will make a difference but in the end it will, also use new oil not something that has been sitting around for a while.
