EASY STOVE-TOP CHEESE GRITS

Easy Stove-Top Cheese Grits image

This is a tasty recipe I made on the spur-of-the-moment, not realising that most cheese grits recipes are baked. These are also delicious with goat cheese in place of the cream cheese.

Provided by scfl76

Categories     Cheese

Time 8m

Yield 4 cups, 8 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 cup reduced-sodium fat-free chicken broth
2 cups water
1 cup milk (I used fat-free, it worked fine)
1 cup quick-cooking grits
1/2 teaspoon salt
3 ounces reduced-fat cream cheese
1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
1 teaspoon hot sauce
1/2 teaspoon seasoning salt

Steps:

  • Combine chicken broth, water, and milk in large saucepan. Bring to a boil. Add grits and salt, stir, cover, and reduce to a simmer. Cook five minutes. (For thicker grits, cook slightly longer.).
  • Remove from heat and stir in cream cheese, cheddar, hot sauce, and seasoned salt.
  • Serve warm.
