BAKED BEANS WITH BEEF
This is the best baked bean recipe I've ever known. Great with any main dish but more especially with barbeque beef, pork, or chicken. The slow cooker does an amazing job with these beans.

EASY IRAQI GREEN BEANS WITH MEAT
This recipe, slightly adapted, is from "Iraqi Family Cookbook from Mosul to America." You can also make this vegetarian without the meat, just fry the onions first in olive oil and then add the green beans, tomato sauce, salt and spices along with one cup water, then simmer for 20 minutes. The Arabic spice mixture (baharat/bahara) recipe follows at the end of the recipe.

BEEF WITH GREEN BEANS
We really enjoyed this super easy dinner which was printed in the newspaper (originally from Easy Chinese Stir-fries). Although I think you can cut the oil in half this isn't bad calorie wise using the amount listed. Also this seems like a lot of pepper but this really isn't a spicy dish -- I think the pepper tenderizes the meat some how.

Steps:
- In a bowl whisk together marinade ingredients (soy sauce - pepper).
- Slice steak with the grain into 2-inch strips and then across the grain into 1/2 inch pieces (the directions say 1/8 inch pieces but mine were closer to 1/2 inch to 1 inch) and then add them to marinade, toss, and set aside.
- Heat one tablespoon oil in wok over medium high heat until hot. Add beans and stir for 1 minute. Add water and reduce heat to medium. Cover and cook for 5-10 minutes. Transfer beans to bowl.
- Add remaining oil (see note in description) to wok and increase heat to high. Add ginger and stir until oil is hot and ginger sizzles (1 minute).
- Add onion and stir for one minute.
- Add beef mixture to wok and stir until beef is done (2-5 minutes).
- Return beans and liquid to wok and stir until mixed and heated through. Discard ginger.

IRAQI LAYERED FRESH FAVA BEAN/BROAD BEANS & RICE
This is another "layered" (m'tubuq) rice dish from Iraq. It's a little work cleaning the fava beans but it can be done while watching TV. Very tasty! The recipe is a high source of protein with or without meat. I make it w/o meat (if you prefer meat, it should be lamb). Since I've never really measured, the amounts are approximate and I use a rice cooker but it's not necessary, just convenient. You can replace the fava beans with baby lima beans if fava isn't available. Fava beans are so much tastier than lima beans, though. You should be able to find them at a produce market or Middle East grocery store. I buy the fresh and double peel them, i.e. remove the large cottony outer pod then remove the shell or skin around each bean. They are also available canned and ready to cook but I still take off the little thin shell around each one.

Steps:
- If using a rice cooker, measure the amount of water for the rice only then add and mix all ingredients together. If using a conventional pot, mix all ingredients together and cover with water that measures about the width of a finger above the rice line. Cover, bring to a boil, lower heat and allow to steam for about 1/2 hour. You can check the rice and beans for doneness.
- Traditionally, when the rice is half cooked, it's divided in half, the mung beans and onions are laid on the bottom half and the rest of the rice is then laid on top (hence "m'tubuq" meaning "layered". Cover again and continue to steam.
- Serve with dollops of plain yogurt or date syrup (dibis).

IRAQI WHITE BEAN STEW
needless to say, this is a very popular stew in iraq.it is easy, simple and delicious. it's eaten for lunch with white rice(basmati or anbar)and green salad on the side.it is cooked with lamb meat, not beef. it is very important to note that when you boil the beans you don't get them fully cooked in order to allow them to be fully cooked in the stew itself
