You won't miss the fat when you taste this moist, fudgy dessert. I substituted yogurt for the oil called for in a reduced-fat box mix to create this delicious cake. -Brenda Ruse, Truro, Nova Scotia

1 package devil's food cake mix (regular size)
1-1/3 cups water
1 cup reduced-fat plain yogurt
1/2 cup baking cocoa
2 egg whites
1 egg
1-1/2 teaspoons confectioners' sugar

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, combine the cake mix, water, yogurt, cocoa, egg whites and egg; beat on low for 30 seconds. Beat on medium for 2 minutes. , Pour into a 10-in. fluted tube pan coated with cooking spray. Bake at 350° for 35-40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool for 10 minutes before removing from pan to a wire rack to cool completely. Dust with confectioners' sugar.

18 1/4 ounces betty crocker milk chocolate cake mix (or use the new lower sugar cake mixes )
1 cup egg substitute (or 4 large eggs)
1 cup unsweetened applesauce
1/2 cup low-fat sour cream
1 1/2 ounces sugar-free instant chocolate pudding mix
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350*.
  • Spray a Bundt pan or a sponge cake pan with a nonstick cooking spray and set aside.
  • In a large mixing bowl using an electric mixer, mix all the ingredients and pour into the prepared pan.
  • Bake cake for 35- 40 minutes depending on your oven or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  • Let cake cool and sprinkle with powdered sugar.
