Time 30m

Yield 8

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon garlic salt
1 egg
1 cup water
1 pound button mushrooms, quartered
2 cups oil for frying, or as needed

Steps:

  • In a medium bowl, stir together the flour and garlic salt. Mix in egg and water until smooth.
  • Heat the oil in a large deep skillet over medium-high heat. Test to see if oil is hot by frying a drop of batter. If it sizzles and floats to the top, the oil is ready.
  • Dip mushrooms into the batter and then place in the hot oil. Fry a few at a time so they are not crowded, until golden brown, 3 to 5 minutes. Remove from oil with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.

CRISPY DEEP-FRIED BREADED MUSHROOMS

Crispy Deep-Fried Breaded Mushrooms image

Breaded mushrooms get that true, crispy crust when deep-fried. Trust me, these deep-fried breaded mushrooms are the best out there!

Provided by Kacey

Categories     Appetizer & Side

Time 45m

Number Of Ingredients 14

16 oz button mushrooms, stems removed
1 cup seasoned bread crumbs
1/2 cup flour
2 eggs
1/8 cup milk
1/2 tsp. dried oregano
1/2 tsp. garlic powder
1/4 tsp. cayenne pepper
1/2 tsp. black pepper
Salt
1/4 tsp. red chili flakes
1/4 tsp. dried basil
1/4 tsp. dried thyme
Vegetable oil for deep-frying

Steps:

  • Clean mushrooms and sprinkle with some salt. Set aside while you prepare your breading station.
  • Bring out 3 descent-sized Tupperware containers with lids. These will be part of your breading station. Alternatively, you can use mixing bowls if you like.
  • In one container, place the flour. oregano, garlic powder, cayenne, black pepper, salt. red chili flakes, basil, and thyme. Mix to combine. In another container, break in the eggs and beat together with 1/8 cup milk. In the final container, add the breadcrumbs. I usually add a touch of salt, pepper, and garlic powder here (and some more red chili flakes for the spice lovers!)
  • Working in batches, place mushrooms in flour mixture. Put on lid and shake until mushrooms are fully coated. Transfer those mushrooms to the egg mixture and shake until fully coated again. Finally, move the mushrooms to the breadcrumbs and shake until evenly coated. Place coated mushrooms on a separate, clean plate and repeat until all mushrooms are coated.
  • Pour enough oil into your pan that will allow you to deep-fry the mushrooms. Anywhere from 1-2 inches. Heat to 350F (a candy thermometer is best here.) When the oil is hot, add the mushrooms in small batches, about 6 mushrooms at a time. Deep-fry for 6-10 minutes, flipping them halfway through so you get a nice, golden brown color on the mushrooms. Times will vary depending on your temperature. NOTE: Oil temperature will drop drastically when you add the mushrooms in, so before you move onto your next batch of mushrooms, make sure the oil reheats to 350F.
  • Remove from oil and place them in a bowl that is lined with paper towel to catch any oil drippings. Cook until all the mushrooms are completed.
  • Serve with ranch dressing or your favorite dipping sauce!

DEEP FRIED BREADED MUSHROOMS

Deep Fried Breaded Mushrooms image

This is a great snack that I like to make with my mushrooms. I prefer Panko bread crumbs for deep frying as they always come out nice and crispy. Does not have to be made in a deep fryer, but definitely helps with taste and even crispness. You can always change seasoning amounts to taste or use different ones like italian seasoning :)

BREADED MUSHROOMS

Breaded Mushrooms image

My Mom has been making these since I was a kid. It is a meal that my whole family enjoys (minus my brother as he hates mushrooms!). She use to make them by placing flour, breadcrumbs and eggs in three separate bowls. It took forever! I use Tupperware and old margarine containers to shake the mushrooms in. Quick, easy and less mess.

Provided by Veggie Girl Kacey

Categories     Vegetable

Time 30m

Yield 2-4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 (8 ounce) package mixed mushrooms (button, mini bellas, cremini, etc.)
2 -3 eggs, beaten (usually two is enough but it depends on the size of your mushrooms)
1 cup flour
1 1/2-2 cups fine breadcrumbs (add more if necessary)
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 tablespoon black pepper
seasoning salt (if necessary, bread crumbs may be salty enough)
vegetable oil (for deep frying)

Steps:

  • Place enough vegetable oil into a deep frying pan on low-medium heat. (I generally place in enough oil so that the bottom half of my mushrooms are submerged. You can always add more.).
  • You do not want the oil bubbling wildly. Adjust temperature accordingly when you place the mushrooms in (a low simmer is nice.).
  • Wash mushrooms and cut off tips of stems.
  • If the mushrooms are really big (such as stuffing mushrooms) cut them in half or even quarters. Otherwise, leave whole.
  • Place flour, eggs and breadcrumbs into three large, separate Tupperware containers.
  • Mix pepper, garlic powder and salt in with the breadcrumbs.
  • Place mushrooms in with the flour. Cover and shake until mushrooms are well coated.
  • Transfer mushrooms to Tupperware dish that has the beaten eggs in it. Cover and shake again until mushrooms are evenly coated.
  • Lastly, transfer mushrooms to final Tupperware container that has the breadcrumbs in it. NOTE: It is better to do this step in two batches as sometimes if there are not enough breadcrumbs the mushrooms do not get a nice even coat and look instead like they are covered in a lumpy batter.).
  • Place mushrooms in oil carefully and cook until bottoms are browned. Flip over and continue cooking until entire mushrooms are cooked through.
  • Mushrooms are done when gently crisp and the breading no longer appears wet looking.
  • Remove mushrooms with slotted spoon and place on plate lined with paper towel to drain.
  • Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese or dip them into your favourite sauce (such as Ranch).
  • *Optional: add some additional herbs or Parmesan cheese to the breadcrumbs to give the recipe a more professional appearance like that in the restaurants.
