DAD'S SIMPLE STEAK MARINADE

Dad's Simple Steak Marinade image

This recipe is one my father taught me. It is the simplest homemade marinade! Just 5 common ingredients! When used overnight, the soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, and garlic make flank, skirt and sirloin steaks flavorful and, most importantly, tender for the grill! For more flavor, add Kosher salt and cracked black pepper to your steak while it cooks. Red wine vinegar or balsamic vinegar may be substituted for the red wine.

DAD'S MINUTE STEAK WITH GOLDEN ONIONS

Dad's minute steak with golden onions image

A special Father's Day treat

Provided by Good Food team

Categories     Dinner, Lunch, Main course, Side dish, Snack, Supper

Time 40m

Number Of Ingredients 10

5 tbsp red wine
2 tbsp soy sauce
1 tbsp Dijon mustard
1 tsp light muscovado sugar
450g minute or sandwich steak , cut into strips
1 tbsp olive oil
1 large onion , thinly sliced
4 thick slices of bread (choose Dad's favourite, either white or brown)
50g garlic butter
watercress , to serve

Steps:

  • Mix the wine, soy sauce, mustard and sugar in a big bowl. Toss in the steak strips, season well with pepper and leave to sit and soak while you get everything else ready.
  • Pour the oil into a large frying pan and heat it up over a medium heat for a minute or so. Tip in the onion slices, turn the heat up to very high and cook for 3-4 minutes, stirring often to get the onions really golden brown. Take the onions out and keep them warm.
  • Lift the steak strips out of the marinade with a slotted spoon and stir fry them in the onion pan over a very high heat for 30 seconds (do it in two batches if it's easier). Pour in the marinade from the bowl and boil for a few seconds until it sticks to the meat but is still juicy. Season with salt and pepper and keep warm.
  • Toast the bread and then spread with the garlic butter and cut each slice in half. Overlap two pieces of toast on each plate, top with a spoonful of onions, then the steak and more onions. Put a little pile of watercress on each plate and serve straightaway.

DAD'S SALTED STEAK WITH (OR WITHOUT) GARLIC

Dad's Salted Steak With (Or Without) Garlic image

My dad taught me this one. Awesome for a quick dinner with boiled, mashed, or any other kind of potatoes and a salad (especially a nice garlicky Ceasar). Living in beef country, we buy steaks on sale (good cuts are sometimes marked down as cheap as or cheaper than ground beef), and wrap, bag, and freeze until we're ready to eat them. (Freezing also tenderizes them a bit, so even cheaper cuts are really gooood.) Slicing the steak and putting in the garlic is optional, but why would you omit it? It's sooooo goooood. You can also add pepper right before you do the salt, but we find it detracts from the garlic and beef and salt flavors.

Time 18m

Yield 1-10 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 3

1 steak, per serving your preferred cut and size (defrosted if frozen, go for the best you can afford, it's worth it)
1 whole fresh head of garlic
kosher salt

Steps:

  • Slice cloves of garlic thinly, the long way (about 1 to 1 1/2 cloves per steak, depending on size and how much you like garlic).
  • Make several cuts, about 1 to 2 inches long, against the grain of the steak. Go almost all the way through, but not quite, to form "pockets" in the steak.
  • Place a slice or two of garlic in each of the "pockets", and squish back together.
  • Liberally and evenly sprinkle kosher salt on top of the steak. Flip over and do the same on the other side, being careful not to disturb the garlic hidden deep within the meat.
  • Let the steaks rest while you prepare the broiler or grill. If you're using the broiler, be sure to put aluminum foil on your broiler pan (and remember to cut the slits) to avoid a mess.
  • Broil or grill the steaks to desired doneness, turning once. Mmmmmmmmmm.

DAD'S FAVORITE STEAK KABOBS

Dad's Favorite Steak Kabobs image

It's hard to say whether these are Dad's Favorite Steak Kabobs because they're so easy to make-or because the ranch dressing has bits of bacon in it.

Provided by My Food and Family

Categories     Home

Time 45m

Yield 4 servings

Number Of Ingredients 4

4 new potatoes, cut in half
1/4 cup KRAFT Ranch with Bacon Dressing, divided
1 boneless beef sirloin steak (1 lb.), cut lengthwise into 1/2-inch-thick slices
8 cherry tomatoes

Steps:

  • Cook potatoes in boiling water 12 to 14 min. or just until tender; drain. Cool slightly.
  • Heat grill to medium-high heat. Reserve half the dressing. Thread meat, accordion-style, onto 4 skewers, alternating potatoes and tomatoes between folds of meat; brush with remaining dressing.
  • Grill 10 to 12 min. or until meat is done, turning occasionally and brushing with reserved dressing for the last 2 min.
