6 -8 cups shredded cabbage
4 tablespoons granulated sugar
3 tablespoons cider vinegar
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup mayonnaise

Steps:

  • Take off outer leaves of cabbage. Core cabbage and cut cabbage into narrow wedges, then slice wedges into thin strips. Place strips into a large bowl.
  • Add sugar and salt, mix well. Let stand at room temperature for 10 - 15 minutes.
  • Add vinegar, and mayonnaise, mix. Cover and refrigerate for a minimum of four hours. Makes 6 - 8 servings.
  • Note: Can add any of the following to the cole slaw: celery seeds, shredded carrots, green pepper, raisins, chopped apples, red cabbage, nuts, pineapple, etc.

1 head cabbage
1/4 small red onion
1 small carrot
1 cup mayonnaise
1/8 cup sugar
1/8 cup apple cider vinegar
1/8 cup vegetable oil

Steps:

  • Shread cabbage, onion and carrot, mix together in large bowl.
  • Mix vinegar and oil, add sugar mix until dissolved.
  • Add oil, vineger and sugar mixture to mayo, stir until it is a well blended cream.
  • Add mixture to cabbage bowl and mix well.
  • (Optional add salt and pepper, mix again.).

Called Holly's Cole Slaw in Pingry Cooks and was submitted by Bunny Raabe. It sounds Hawaiian to me with raisins and pineapple. Prebagged shredded cole slaw helps cut down on prep time. I guessed can ounces since the recipe just said "a can" for the pineapple tidbits.

1 (7 ounce) can pineapple, tidbits, drained
1 cup sour cream

  • Combine the salad ingredients in a large bowl and toss.
  • Cimbine the dressing ingredients and mix into the salad.

Found posted on allrecipes.com by Christina J. I've been told this is the closest copycat recipe for Primanti Bro's cole slaw. Fingers crossed. I plan on making it today for a BBQ. Cooking time includes minimum refrigeration time. It was recommended that slaw be refrigerated overnight and served with a slotted spoon to drain excess dressing.

2 (16 ounce) bags cabbage coleslaw blend
1 medium onion, finely chopped
3/4 cup white sugar
1 cup vinegar
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon celery seed
1 teaspoon white sugar
1 teaspoon prepared mustard
3/4 cup vegetable oil

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, toss together the cabbage, onion, and 3/4 cup sugar.
  • In a small saucepan, combine the vinegar, salt, celery seed, 1 teaspoon white sugar, mustard and oil.
  • Bring to a boil.
  • Cook for 3 minutes.
  • Cool completely, then pour over cabbage mixture.
  • Toss to coat.
  • Refrigerate 8-24 hours for best flavor.
  • Toss again prior to serving.

1/2 cup rutabaga, raw, coarsely grated
1 cup cabbage, shredded
1/2 cup carrot, shredded
1/4 cup raisins (optional)
1/4 cup salad dressing or 1/4 cup mayonnaise
1/2 tablespoon lemon juice
1/4 teaspoon sugar or 1/4 teaspoon artificial sweetener
2 tablespoons peanuts, chopped

Steps:

  • Combine the lemon juice, sweetener, and salad dressing.
  • Just before serving, toss all ingredients together.
  • Variation: instead of shredded carrot, I've used 1 cup diced and unpeeled red apple for a nice change.

I know there are a lot of other Oriental Slaw recipes out there but none of them are quite like this one. My mom makes this for every outdoor grilling function so I guess this is why I'm partial.

16 ounces Coleslaw
2 (3 ounce) packages oriental-flavor instant ramen noodles, reserve flavor packets for dressing (the Top Ramen brand is vegan)
4 ounces sunflower seeds
2 ounces slivered almonds
1 bunch green onion, sliced
1/3 cup sugar
3/4 cup oil
1/4 cup vinegar

Steps:

  • I have had this with the noodles cooked and with them raw. Raw noodles gives the slaw more crunch, but I prefer them cooked. You can still have crunch with the seeds and nuts.
  • Either way, mix together the slaw ingredients in a large container. Whisk together the dressing ingredients and pour over the slaw mixture. Toss together. Cover and refrigerate for an hour.
  • If you're impatient you can eat it right away. Keeps for a few days, but it's never around long enough in my house to really find out it's shelf life.
