1 cup butter
1/4 cup sugar
2 cups flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup sliced maraschino cherry (well drained)
1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)
confectioners' sugar
1 teaspoon almond extract
1/4 cup maraschino cherry (halved for cookie tops)

Steps:

  • Cream the butter and the sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Add flour and salt - blend well.
  • Add almond extract, cherries and nuts.
  • Shape dough into small balls.
  • Place on ungreased cookie sheets about 1 inch apart.
  • Top with cherry halves.
  • Bake 300 degrees 20 -25 minutes.
  • Remove from sheets and roll in confectioners sugar while still hot.
  • Let cool on racks.
  • Roll in sugar again (optional).

This is a wonderful recipe for homemade Cherry Kislings - a great hit among my peers and family. Since this is on the sweeter side, I like to serve it as a dessert. Try it out and enjoy!

Steps:

  • MAKING 1) In a bowl, mix together butter and sugar till light and fluffy. 2) Add in the flour and salt and mix well. 3) Add in the cherries and walnuts. 4) Shape into small balls. 5) Arrange on an ungreased baking sheet. 6) Place in the oven at 300° F and bake for 20 to 30 minutes. 7) Take off from the sheet and coat with confectioners' sugar. 8) Cool and roll again in sugar. SERVING 9) Serve as a dessert.

14 ounces butter
3/4 cup sugar
4 cups flour
1/2 cup finely ground almonds
1 vanilla bean
1 1/2 cups powdered sugar

Steps:

  • Cream butter and sugar.
  • Add nuts, mix in flour.
  • Refrigerate ½ hour.
  • Form crescent shaped cookies (or any other shape with cookie cutter) 1/4" thick.
  • Bake on ungreased cookie sheet at 375 degrees until lightly browned.
  • Grind vanilla bean and mix with powdered sugar.
  • When cookies are cool, sift sugar mixtures over cookies.
