Number Of Ingredients 7

1 cantaloupe (seeded, peeled, & finely diced)
1/2 c sugar
1 Tbsp fresh lemon juice
1 Tbsp chopped mint leaves
1 Tbsp chopped basil leaves
1 c light rum
4 c crushed ice

Steps:

  • 1. In either a Large bowl or freezer bag, combine the Cantaloupe, Sugar, Lemon, Mint & Basil. Let the melon macerate in the fridge until soft and juicy, about 2 hours. Place the glasses in the freezer to chill.
  • 2. When your ready to serve your guests, puree the melon mix in a blender or food processor. Add the Rum and Ice, blend until smooth.
  • 3. Serve & Enjoy Responsibly. :)

My friend grows the most amazing cantaloupes. After pigging out on most of one I decided to search for a great drink recipe using this sweet fruit. I found this drink from the Seattle-Post Intelligencer. Make sure you use only the sweetest cantaloupe you can find.

1 cantaloupe, seeded, peeled and finely diced
1/2 cup sugar
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
1 tablespoon mint leaf, chopped
1 tablespoon basil leaves, chopped
1 cup light rum
4 cups ice, crushed

Steps:

  • In a large bowl or food storage bag, combine the cantaloupe, sugar, lemon juice, mint and basil.
  • Let the melon macerate in the refrigerator until very soft and juicy, about 2 hours. Meanwhile chill the glasses in the freezer.
  • When ready to serve, puree the melon mixture in a blender or food processor.
  • Add the rum and ice and blend until slushy.

ice
50ml white rum
25ml watermelon liqueur or watermelon-flavoured spirit, such as gin
10ml lime juice
100g watermelon (prepared weight), plus a wedge to garnish

Steps:

  • Put a handful of ice in a blender suitable for crushing ice, along with the rum, watermelon liqueur, lime juice and watermelon flesh. Blitz until just smooth.
  • Fill a hurricane or other tall glass with ice, pour over the daiquiri and garnish with a wedge of watermelon.
