Homemade Hot Cocoa image

This homemade hot chocolate recipe will make people think you fussed but it is so simple. -Hershey Food Corporation, Cheryl Reitz, Hershey, Pennsylvania

Time 15m

Yield 5 cups.

Number Of Ingredients 7

1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup baking cocoa
Dash salt
1/3 cup hot water
4 cups milk
3/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
Miniature marshmallows, sweetened whipped cream or cinnamon sticks, optional

Steps:

  • In a saucepan, combine sugar, cocoa and salt. Add water; bring to a boil. Cook and stir for 2 minutes. Stir in milk; heat to serving temperature (do not boil). Remove from the heat; stir in vanilla. Whisk until frothy. If desired, garnish with marshmallows, cream or cinnamon sticks.

1/4 cup ground dark chocolate (high quality chocolate 60% cocoa content (or more)
ground nutmeg or cinnamon

Steps:

  • Heat milk to just below boiling.
  • Whisk in cocoa powder and ground chocolate, and spices.

1/3 cup cocoa powder
1/3 cup water
4 cups milk
1 teaspoon vanilla

Steps:

  • Stir cocoa powder and sugar in a pot.
  • Add water and stir.
  • Bring to a boil over medium heat. Boil two minutes.
  • Add milk (I use 1 can canned milk and equal water, plus 1 cup of whole milk). Heat until hot.
  • Add vanilla and serve.
