Healthier Sloppy Joes {Refined Sugar Free} image

Number Of Ingredients 15

2 tablespoons olive oil
1 cup onion (chopped)
2 celery stalks (chopped (about 1/3 cup))
2 cloves garlic (minced)
1 1/4 pounds lean ground turkey
1 teaspoon chili powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground mustard
1/2 teaspoon paprika
1/2 cup water
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1/2 cup Homemade Ketchup
1/4 cup Homemade Barbecue Sauce (or check out this one at iherb.com, use my code to get off your first order: YAJ035)
1 tablespoon quick-cooking oats
6 whole grain or gluten free buns

Steps:

  • In a large saute pan, heat the oil on medium high heat.
  • Saute the garlic, onion and celery until vegetables are softened.
  • Add the turkey, chili powder, salt, mustard, paprika and cook until turkey is no longer pink.
  • Pour in the water, Worcestershire sauce, ketchup and barbecue sauce and bring to a boil.
  • Lower heat, cover and simmer for 15 minutes.
  • Uncover and stir in the oats.
  • Continue to stir until mixture thickens to desired consistency.
  • If it's too saucy cook longer, if it's not saucy enough add a few tablespoons of water.

1 c ketchup
2 1/2 Tbsp prepared yellow mustard
2 3/4 tsp sea salt
2 1/2 Tbsp splenda brown sugar blend
4 Tbsp apple cider vinegar
8 hamburger buns, whole wheat

Steps:

  • 1. In a screaming hot skillet, brown the ground beef til crumbly,drain the fat
  • 2. Add the rest of the ingredients to the browned ground beef, stir well to combine thoroughly.
  • 3. Cover, simmer for 30 minutes
  • 4. Pile it on the buns

  • In a medium skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef, onion, and green pepper; drain off liquids.
  • Stir in the garlic powder, mustard, ketchup, and brown sugar; mix thoroughly. Reduce heat, and simmer for 30 minutes. Season with salt and pepper.
