My family just about jumps out of bed when the smell of eggs, sausage and buttery pastry hits their noses. This recipe is morning magic. -Misty M. Leddick, Chester, South Carolina

Number Of Ingredients 11

2 cups plus 1 tablespoon water, divided
1/2 cup quick-cooking grits
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1/4 cup butter, cubed
2 tablespoons prepared pesto
1/2 teaspoon salt, divided
1/4 teaspoon coarsely ground pepper, divided
1/2 pound bulk pork sausage
1/4 cup finely chopped sweet red pepper
7 large eggs, divided use
1 package (17.3 ounces) frozen puff pastry, thawed

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375°. In a small saucepan, bring 2 cups of water to a boil. Slowly stir in grits. Reduce the heat to medium-low; cook, covered, 5 minutes or until thickened, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat. Stir in the cheese, butter, pesto, 1/4 teaspoon salt and 1/8 teaspoon pepper until blended., Meanwhile, in a large skillet, cook sausage and red pepper over medium heat until sausage is no longer pink and red pepper is tender, 4-6 minutes, breaking up sausage into crumbles; drain., In a small bowl, whisk 6 of the eggs and the remaining salt and pepper until blended. Return sausage to skillet. Pour in the egg mixture; cook and stir until the eggs are thickened and no liquid egg remains., Unfold each of the puff pastry sheets onto a 12x10-in. sheet of parchment. Spread grits up to 1/2 in. from the edges. Spoon the sausage mixture over half of the grits on each pastry. Fold pastries over the sausage mixture to enclose; press the edges with a fork to seal. Transfer to a baking sheet., In a small bowl, whisk remaining egg and water; brush over pastries. If desired, top with additional ground pepper. Bake until golden brown. Let stand 10 minutes. Cut each pastry into 4 pieces.

1 pound bulk pork sausage
4 cups biscuit/baking mix
3/4 cup 2% milk
1/2 cup water
1 can (4 ounces) diced green chilies, undrained
1 egg, lightly beaten
1 can (11 ounces) whole kernel corn, drained

Steps:

  • In a large skillet over medium heat, brown sausage until no longer pink. Drain and set aside. In a large bowl, combine the biscuit mix, milk, water, chilies and egg. Stir in the corn and sausage. , Fill greased or paper-lined muffin cups two-thirds full. Bake at 425° for 16-18 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool for 5 minutes; remove from pan to a wire rack. Serve warm.

Sausage Gravy and Biscuits is one of the easiest and most loved breakfast and brunch dishes in America. You only need 25 minutes and a few simple ingredients to make this classic dish!

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 (12 ounce) package of regular breakfast sausage
2 Tablespoons butter
1/4 cup flour
3 cups whole milk
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper (or more for taste)

Steps:

  • Cook sausage in a large skillet, breaking up into small pieces as it cooks.
  • Once fully cooked, add butter and mix well until melted and mixed together.
  • Add flour and mix together.
  • Add milk 1/2 cup at a time, stirring well after each addition. Mixture will become very thick and then slowly thin out. If you add all of milk at once it will clump. Add it slowly so that it will be a smooth gravy. This is called making a roux.
  • Once all milk is added add salt and pepper to taste.
  • Serve over biscuits.

2 tablespoons finely chopped onion
6 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 quart milk
1/2 teaspoon poultry seasoning

Dash Worcestershire sauce
Dash hot pepper sauce
Biscuits

Steps:

  • Crumble sausage into a large saucepan; cook over medium-low heat. Add onion; cook and stir until transparent. Drain, discarding all but 2 tablespoons of drippings. Stir in flour; cook over medium-low heat about 6 minutes or until mixture bubbles and turns golden. Stir in milk. Add seasonings; cook, stirring, until thickened.
