Ingredients

3 cups flour
2 cups sugar (1 white, 1 brown)
1 /2 cup shortening
3 tsp baking powder
1 /2 tsp cream of tartar
2 eggs
1 tsp baking soda
1 cup sour milk
cinnamon for sprinkling

Steps:

Mix the cake ingredients thoroughly.
Set aside 1 /2 cup of the mixture and pour the rest into two greased 9 X 13 inch pans
Bake at 375 for about 35 minutes.
Remove cake from oven half way through and sprinkle reserved mixture for topping.
Sprinkle cinnamon on top

Ingredients

2 cups light brown sugar
2 cups all-purpose flour
3/4 cup shortening
1 egg
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 cup hot strong coffee
1 teaspoon baking soda

Steps:

Mix the sugar, flour and shortening until lumpy.
Do not mix until creamy.
Reserve 1 cup to use as topping.
Dissolve the baking soda in the hot coffee and add to the flour mixture.
Add the egg and vanilla.
Spread in a 9"x12"x2" pan (please note that this is a thin batter) and sprinkle on the reserved topping.
Bake at 325°F degrees for approximately 30 minutes.
Sprinkle with powdered sugar before serving.
