½ cup blackberry preserves
1 ½ cups ketchup
⅛ cup brown sugar
⅛ teaspoon cayenne pepper
¼ teaspoon mustard powder
2 tablespoons red wine vinegar

Steps:

  • In a medium bowl, mix together blackberry preserves, ketchup, brown sugar, cayenne pepper, mustard powder, and red wine vinegar. Use to baste pork or beef ribs while grilling.

Sunset Magazine had a barbecue contest a few years back and this sauce was the grand prize winner. Recipe has been adapted to use the stove top and not the microwave.

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 1/4 cups blackberries
1/4 cup ketchup
1/4 cup honey
1/4 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
1/4 cup ginger, minced
1 teaspoon pepper
1 -2 teaspoon hot sauce, to taste
salt, to taste

Steps:

  • Put all ingredients in a blender and pulse until the berries are fully pureed.
  • Pour into a a small sauce pan.
  • Bring to a simmer then turn down the heat to low.
  • Cook On low until the sauce is reduced by 1/3 be sure to stir occasionally.
  • Serve with anything barbecued.

1 cup frozen blackberries or marionberries (or 1/2 pint fresh, rinsed and drained)
3 cloves garlic (peeled)
2 tablespoons red wine vinegar
1/4 cup brown sugar
2 tablespoons corn syrup (dark or light)
1/2 cup ketchup
1 pinch crushed red pepper flakes
3/4 teaspoon Pimenton de la Vera (smoked Spanish Paprika)
3/4 teaspoon coarse salt
1/4 teaspoon coarsely ground pepper
1 1/2 teaspoons unsalted butter (optional)

Steps:

  • Puree all the ingredients in a food processor.
  • Transfer the puree to a small saucepan and simmer for one hour, or until the sauce has thickened slightly.
  • Let cool and store in a covered jar in the refrigerator for up to one month.

2 cups blackberries
1 cup ketchup
¼ cup honey
2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
½ teaspoon garlic powder
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon dry mustard
¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes

Steps:

  • Place all ingredients in a saucepan over medium heat
  • Bring to a simmer and then cook over medium low heat for 3-5 minutes until berries are broken down
  • Pour into a sieve over a heat proof container
  • Push sauce through sieve with a spatula or a spoon. Discard remaining seeds and pulp
  • Allow sauce to cool then cover and refrigerate until ready to use

This is came together when I was making blackberry jam. A total experiment that worked. I make my own jelly for this recipe. I used to use jam but I didnt like the seeds in my teeth! if you use jelly people wont know the secret ingredient. you may add a dash of hot sauce to fire it up if you enjoy heat. to some this sauce is sweet to others they love it. Enjoy!

1 1/2 cups ketchup
1/8 cup demerara sugar
1/8-1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper

  • This is super easy,.
  • add all ingredients to a sauce pan and stir over med - low heat for 10-15 minutes.
  • this sauce can be used to baste pork back ribs, beef ribs, or chicken wings,thighs or breasts.
  • My Brother and Sis in-law said they used this sauce with chicken breast strips for company over for dinner, the guests loved it.
  • My tips.
  • Be creative and add fresh berries with sauce when serving. I have added a dash of thai hot chile sauce or chilpote sauce.
  • This sauce does burn over high heat,I partially cook my meats first then add the sauce after wards.

Sailing around the Gulf Islands I picked some fresh blackberries and wanted to incorporate them into dinner. The following sauce was simple to put together and was incredible on the pork ribs we had for dinner. Also goes great on chicken and lamb.

1 1/2 cups fresh blackberries
1/2 cup tomato ketchup
1/2 cup firmly-packed brown sugar
1 -2 teaspoon fresh ginger or 1/2-1 teaspoon dry ground ginger
1/2 teaspoon fresh ground black pepper
1 -2 teaspoon your favourite hot sauce or 1 dash cayenne

Steps:

  • Mix all ingredients well using a food processor or stick blender.
  • Bring to a boil in a saucepan for 2-3 minutes.
  • Cool and put in squeeze, strain if you want the seeds removed.
  • Keeps well in refrigerator. Add to pork, chicken or beef in place of your regular barbecue sauce.
