ORIGINAL BLACK COW
No this is not a root beer float( some people call the root beer float a black cow -not.) My grandmother used to make these for me when I would visit her in the summertime on vacation! This recipe is from 1949.

Steps:
- 1. Place syrup in a tall glass. Add coca-cola and cream; stir; add ice cream and serve with a straw.
- 2. Lavern & Shirley Drink Pour equal amounts of pepsi and milk in a tall glass- stir and drink.
BLACK COW
This classic ice float is pure nostalgia for the true ice cream parlor lover. Root beer makes the cow black, cola makes her brown.

Steps:
- Drizzle the chocolate sauce or syrup into the bottom of a large ice cream soda or pint glass. Add half of the root beer and mix well with a long spoon.
- Add 1 scoop of ice cream, then top off the glass with the remaining root beer. Traditionally, the remaining scoop of ice cream is balanced on the rim of the glass-press it down firmly so it doesn't plop into the table or swan dive into the float-although you could just plunk it in the root beer.

This brings back wonderful childhood memories of my grandmother. My cousins, brothers, and I would make these in her kitchen, usually making a mess. She didn't care as long as we were laughing and having fun. If you added a squirt of chocolate syrup, you had a "Black Cow with a Sling of Mud." Boy, those were the days and it sure didn't take much to make us happy!!
