MOM'S BAKING POWDER BISCUITS

Mom's Baking Powder Biscuits image

This is the recipe my mom always made. I like to use the butter flavored shortening, but you can use regular. Amount of biscuits you get depends on how big around you make them and the thickness. My daughter likes me to make smaller ones.

NO-YEAST DINNER ROLLS

No-Yeast Dinner Rolls image

We make these quick easy homemade dinner rolls without yeast when we've run out of the baker's standby or don't have the time for yeast to work its magic. Slightly reminiscent of biscuits, they are easier to make and not as crumbly. Feel free to split the leftovers and use for sandwiches the next day.

Time 50m

Yield 12 rolls

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 1/2 sticks (12 tablespoons) unsalted butter, melted and cooled, plus more for the baking dish

2 teaspoons sugar
2 teaspoons kosher salt
1 1/2 cups milk, at room temperature

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F. Coat the bottom of a 9-by-13-inch baking dish with butter.
  • Whisk together the flour, baking powder, sugar and salt in a large bowl. Whisk together the milk and 1/2 cup of the butter in a medium bowl. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry and combine with a wooden spoon; do not overwork the dough. It should be wet.

BEST "NO ROLL" BAKING POWDER BISCUITS

Best

I love home made biscuits but hate the mess of rolling them out on my counter. With this recipe you can simple form the dough into balls with your hand and then press them onto a baking sheet... no rolling or cutting required! This is a Better Homes and Gardens recipe.

Provided by good2bdunn

Categories     Breads

Time 27m

Yield 12 biscuits, 6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 5

4 cups all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
2/3 cup shortening
1 1/2 cups milk

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 450.
  • Mix dry ingredients together thoroughly.
  • Add shortening and cut into dry mix until it resembles course crumbs. (Two butter knifes work, but everyone should own a pastry cutter!).
  • Add milk and stir until dough just clings together.
  • Form dough into balls a little larger then a golf ball and place side by side on a baking sheet.
  • Press balls down with the palm of your hand until they are about 1/2 inch thick.
  • Bake in oven for 10 - 12 minutes or until golden.
