A great winter soup.

Number Of Ingredients 12

1 (16 ounce) package dried navy beans
9 cups water
1 pound bacon
2 onions, chopped
2 stalks celery, chopped
4 teaspoons chicken bouillon
1 bay leaf
⅓ teaspoon salt
¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
⅛ teaspoon ground cloves
1 (16 ounce) can diced tomatoes
4 cups water

Steps:

  • Boil the beans in 9 cups of the water and then let sit for one hour. Drain and set aside.
  • Cook the bacon to your desired texture (it can be soft or crisp, whatever you prefer) and drain except for 1/4 cup grease. Coarsely chop the bacon.
  • Add the onions and celery to the reserved grease and bacon and saute until soft, do not drain. Add the chicken base or cubes, 4 cups water, beans, bay leaf, salt, pepper, and cloves, and simmer for 2 hours.
  • Stir in the tomatoes with their juice. Serve.

1 pound lean ground beef (90% lean)
1 package (7 ounces) elbow macaroni, cooked and drained
2 cups shredded reduced-fat cheddar cheese, divided
1 can (16 ounces) kidney beans, rinsed and drained
1 can (14-1/2 ounces) stewed tomatoes
1 medium green pepper, diced
1 medium onion, finely chopped
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
Crushed red pepper flakes and pepper to taste
2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese

Steps:

  • In a large skillet, cook beef over medium heat until no longer pink; drain. In a large bowl, combine the macaroni, 1-1/2 cups cheddar cheese, beans, tomatoes, green pepper and onion. Stir in the beef, garlic powder, pepper flakes and pepper., Spoon into a 13x9-in. baking dish coated with cooking spray. Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese and remaining cheddar cheese. Cover and bake at 375° for 30 minutes or until heated through.

Yield Serves 8 to 10 as a side dish

Number Of Ingredients 10

6 bacon slices, chopped
2 medium onions, chopped
1/2 pound mushrooms, sliced
1 1/2 tablespoons chopped garlic
1 tablespoon dried oregano
1 cup dry red wine
3 15- to 16-ounce cans of beans (preferably a variety, such as kidney, black and small white), drained
2 14 1/2-ounce cans of diced tomatoes in juice
12 ounces penne pasta, freshly cooked
2 cups grated Parmesan cheese

Steps:

  • Sauté chopped bacon in heavy large pot over medium-high heat until fat is rendered, about 5 minutes. Add onions, mushrooms, garlic and oregano and sauté until onions are soft, about 8 minutes. Add wine and bring to boil. Add beans and tomatoes with juices. Reduce heat to medium. Simmer until liquid thickens and flavors blend, stirring occasionally, about 25 minutes.
  • Mix in pasta and 3/4 cup cheese and simmer 2 minutes. Season to taste with salt and pepper.
  • Transfer pasta to large bowl. Serve, passing remaining cheese.

1/4 cup KRAFT Sun Dried Tomato Vinaigrette Dressing
1 pkg. (16 oz.) frozen cut green beans
2 slices OSCAR MAYER Fully Cooked Bacon, cut into 1-inch pieces
4 cups egg noodles, uncooked

Steps:

  • Cook and stir onions in dressing in large skillet on medium-high heat 5 min. or until onions are crisp-tender.
  • Add beans and bacon; stir gently. Cook 8 to 10 min. or until heated through, stirring occasionally. Meanwhile, cook noodles as directed on package, omitting salt.
  • Drain noodles. Serve topped with bean mixture.

1 box (1 lb) elbow macaroni (about 6 cups)
1 bag (12 oz) frozen broccoli cuts
8 slices bacon
1/2 cup sliced shallots
6 tablespoons Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground pepper
4 cups milk
12 oz white Cheddar cheese, shredded (3 cups)
8 oz Gouda cheese, shredded (2 cups)
20 round buttery crackers, coarsely crushed

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 350°F. Spray 13x9-inch (3-quart) glass baking dish with cooking spray. Cook and drain macaroni as directed on package, using minimum cook time. Meanwhile, cook broccoli as directed on package.
  • In 4-quart Dutch oven, cook bacon until crisp; drain on paper towels. Crumble bacon; set aside. Reserve 2 tablespoons drippings. Cook shallots in bacon drippings over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until tender. Stir in flour, salt and pepper. Cook and stir until mixture is smooth and bubbly. Gradually add milk, stirring constantly until mixture boils and thickens.
  • Remove from heat. Add 2 cups of the Cheddar cheese and the Gouda cheese; stir until melted. Stir in cooked macaroni and broccoli and crumbled bacon. Spoon mixture into baking dish. Sprinkle with crushed crackers and remaining 1 cup Cheddar cheese.
  • Bake uncovered 15 minutes or until bubbly and cheese is melted.
