THE BEST SHOWER DRAIN HAIR CATCHERS OF 2023 - BOB VILA
From bobvila.com
Estimated Reading Time 9 mins
- TubShroom the Revolutionary Tub Drain Protector. The TubShroom is an in-drain hair catcher with a unique design. Its functional mushroom-shaped catcher keeps unsightly trapped hair inside the drain.
- Danco Tub/Drain Protector. The Danco’s flower-shaped design centers around a basket. Each silicone petal has tiny pegs to catch hair and prevent it from slipping down the drain.
- LEKEYE Stainless Steel Drain Protector. This option from LEKEYE features a two-piece design with a detachable in-drain hair catcher and an outer strainer to prevent hair or small debris from passing through.
- LEKEYE Stainless Steel Drain Protector/Strainer. LEKEYE’s in-drain drain protector features durable stainless steel, with a tripod-shaped top that resembles a regular drain stopper once installed.
- OXO Good Grips Shower Stall Drain Protector. OXO’s drain protector is 4.75 inches in diameter and is made from durable, rust-proof stainless steel. The screen contains small holes to stop hair from slipping through, with a soft, nonslip silicone rim to keep the hair catcher in place.
- OXO Good Grips Silicone Drain Protector. The tall, domed shape of this OXO model works for drains with pop-up stoppers in addition to flat drains. Since the stopper can stay in the tub drain, it doesn’t have to be reinstalled every time someone bathes.
- DrainWig Shower Drain Protectors. The DrainWig features a long chain with rubber whiskers to catch hairs that slip down the drain. A cute daisy-shaped top piece keeps the chain in place and makes for simple removal once the hair catcher is full.
- SHURIN Square Drain Cover for Shower. This flat, square, silicone drain cover is large enough to fit over most round or square shower drains. This cover is versatile, with a large size and flat, flexible design.
HOW TO UNSCREW A BATHTUB DRAIN? (STEP-BY-STEP TUTORIAL)

- Remove the stopper. There are many different types of stopper, and the first thing you need to do before you can remove the bathtub drain is to remove the stopper.
- Remove the screen. The screen is the grille that is designed to prevent larger objects from falling into the drain. You also need to remove this before you can gain access to the drain.
- Heat the drain to soften the sealant. Once the stopper and the screen have been removed, you’re ready to move onto the main part of the work. The drain will have been fitted with some kind of sealant like plumber’s putty.
- Remove the drain. The best way to remove the drain itself is to use a drain wrench. These are special tools that are designed specifically for this purpose.
- Clean the seal. With the drain removed, you can now clean the old seal. Pick off any old sealant that remains around the drain – you may need to use a knife or a screwdriver to scrape it off.
- Install the new drain. Apply plumber’s putty around the base of the new drain and screw it in using the drain wrench or the pliers as before. As you screw it in, some of the putty will come out around the seal.
THE 6 COMMON TYPES OF BATHTUB DRAIN STOPPERS - THE …
From thespruce.com
- Lift-and-Turn. Best for: Most bathtubs. A lift-and-turn drain stopper has a small knob on the cap, which is used to twist the stopper open and closed. It's closed by turning the knob until it goes down, and it's opened by lifting and turning the knob in the opposite direction.
- Push-and-Pull. Best for: Most bathtubs. A push-and-pull stopper is very similar to a lift-and-turn stopper in design and look, but it is pushed down to close and pulled up to open rather than twisted.
- Toe-Touch. Best for: Most bathtubs. A toe-touch stopper (also called a toe-tap or foot-actuated) is closely related to the lift-and-turn and push-and-pull stoppers in look and function.
- Flip-It. Best for: Bathtubs without drain strainers. A flip-it tub stopper features a toggle lever attached to its top that's moved side to side to close and open the drain.
- Trip-Lever. Best for: Most bathtubs. The trip-lever stopper is one of two types featuring a lever on the overflow plate at the front of the tub. For this type, there is no visible pop-up stopper in the drain opening—just a strainer.
- Pop-Up. Best for: Most bathtubs. The drain part of a pop-up stopper looks very much like a bathroom sink pop-up. And it is operated by the same type of lever on the overflow plate as the trip-lever stopper.
