Categories     american     holiday     holiday side dish

Time 1h10m

Number Of Ingredients 10

1 6-8 lb boneless, precooked ham ( - spiral sliced or you can slice yourself)
2 tablespoons butter
3 tablespoons honey
1 cup white granulated sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
1/4 teaspoon paprika

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 275 degrees farenheit.
  • Spray a roasting pan, or a dutch oven with nonstick cooking spray. Place the ham flat side down in the center of the pan.
  • Mix honey and butter in a small bowl. Slather mixture on ham, and inbetween slices. Bake for 10-12 minutes per pound, or until ham is warm throughout (120-140 degrees internally). *As this recipe is using precooked ham, it does not need to be 165 degrees to eat.
  • Remove ham from oven. Set oven to broil setting. Combine Spice Mixture in small bowl. Rub spice mixture over the top of the ham. Broil for several minutes until brown and caramelized. NOTE: Keep a close eye while broiling to keep from burning.
  • Remove from oven and let rest for 5-10 minutes before serving.

HONEY GLAZED HAM

Honey Glazed Ham image

This ham tastes very much like the famous honey baked ham but costs much less, and there's no need to fight the crowds at holiday time. You can even buy the ham presliced to make it easier and more like the original. It is very good. (I do this while preparing the rest of the meal in the kitchen so that I don't forget to baste!)

Number Of Ingredients 5

1 (5 pound) ready-to-eat ham
¼ cup whole cloves
¼ cup dark corn syrup
2 cups honey
⅔ cup butter

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C).
  • Score ham, and stud with the whole cloves. Place ham in foil lined pan.
  • In the top half of a double boiler, heat the corn syrup, honey and butter. Keep glaze warm while baking ham.
  • Brush glaze over ham, and bake for 1 hour and 15 minutes in the preheated oven. Baste ham every 10 to 15 minutes with the honey glaze. During the last 4 to 5 minutes of baking, turn on broiler to caramelize the glaze. Remove from oven, and let sit a few minutes before serving.

HONEY BAKED HAM (THE REAL THING!)

Honey Baked Ham (The Real Thing!) image

I got this recipe from "Top Secret Recipes" and it is the HoneyBaked Store recipe (or duplicate) that they use at the store. The hams are delivered at the stores already smoked and cooked; they are then sliced with the signature cut and then this recipe is used to caramelize them using a blow-torch. "Top Secret Recipes" only keeps this recipe up for two weeks on their site a year. The spices are ordinary pumpkin pie spices and you may substitute that for the first three spices. To get the coating just right, you must use a blowtorch. If you don't have one, you can find a small one in the hardware stores for around $15. Oh, Eleventhletter - I loved your suggestion to put it in a can of cola and baste it with that! Wonderful! THEN, when it's done - put on the sugar crust!

Time 2h30m

Yield 20 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 fully-cooked shank half ham, bone in (pre-sliced is best)
1 cup sugar (I like to use 1/2 brown sugar and 1/2 white)
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
1/8 teaspoon paprika
1 dash ground ginger
1 dash ground allspice

Steps:

  • First you must slice your ham, if it is not already sliced.
  • Use a very sharp knife to cut the ham into very thin slices around the bone.
  • Do not cut all the way to the bone or the meat may not hold together properly as it is being glazed.
  • You want the slices to be quite thin, but not so thin that they begin to fall apart of off the bone.
  • You may wish to turn the ham onto its flat end and cut around it starting at the bottom.
  • You can then spin the ham as you slice around and work your way up.
  • Mix the ingredients together in a small bowl.
  • (I like to make double this recipe for a nice large ham).
  • Lay down a couple sheets of wax paper onto a flat surface, such as your kitchen counter.
  • Pour the sugar mixture onto the wax paper and spread it around evenly.
  • Pick up the ham and roll it over the sugar mixture so that it is well coated.
  • Do not coat the flat end of the ham, just the outer surface which you have sliced through.
  • Again, I like to stuff some of the sugar mixture INSIDE the slices.
  • Turn the ham onto its flat end on a plate.
  • Use a blow torch with a medium-size flame to caramelize the sugar.
  • Wave the torch over the sugar with rapid movements, so that the sugar bubbles and browns, but does not burn.
  • Spin the plate so that you can torch the entire surface of the ham.
  • Repeat the coating and caramelizing process until the ham has been well-glazed (don't expect to use all of the sugar mixture).
  • Serve the ham cold (don't put the sugar between the slices if you plan on doing this) or re-heat (THEN put the sugar between the slices BEFORE you caramelize it) just like the real thing!
  • Don't be frightened to use the torch!
  • You can to it outside, if you wish.
  • Just set it on something fire proof and have fun blazing away!

COPYCAT HONEY BAKED HAM

Copycat Honey Baked Ham image

For holidays and special occasions my family loves a good old fashioned baked ham. One year I decided to see if I could duplicate the crunchy glaze on a Honey Baked Ham. After tweaking it a couple times I have developed a pretty good imitation. It is delicious. I get asked to make ham to take to pot lucks and parties because everyone likes my version so well. The best part is that it is really easy. If you have a kitchen torch you can torch the sugar instead of broiling it. That method is just as easy. -Donna Gribbins, Shelbyville, Kentucky

  • Let the ham sit out at room temperature for 3 hours before baking. This will help bring the ham’s temperature up so it won’t take as long to cook. This accounts for the long "additional time" measurement above.
  • Preheat the oven to 325°F. Place the ham onto a rack in a large roasting pan, cut-side down. If you do not have a roasting rack, you can make one by using a large piece of foil, compressing it down into a long rope, and securing the ends together to form a circle. Place the foil circle into the bottom of the roasting pan and place the ham, cut-side down, on top of the foil.
  • To a small sauce pan, add the honey, brown sugar, vinegar, dijon and grainy mustards, garlic and onion powders, pepper, cloves, and whisk together until combined and place over medium-low heat. Continue to stir occasionally until the sugars have melted and the mixture is smooth; remove from the heat.
