1 Red Grapefruit (I prefer Texas Rio Star)
1 TBS honey
1/4 tsp ground cinnamon

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
  • Slice grapefruit in half.
  • Drizzle the cut halves with the honey and sprinkle with cinnamon.
  • Bake 10-15 minutes. Serve hot with grapefruit spoon.

A sweet addition to any meal or dessert. Easily modified to use many different fruits such as peaches, apricots, or pineapple.

2 grapefruit, cut in half
6 tablespoons brown sugar

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven's broiler and set the oven rack about 6 inches from the heat source.
  • Place grapefruit halves, cut sides up, onto a baking sheet; sprinkle each with about 1 1/2 tablespoon of brown sugar.
  • Broil the grapefruit until the brown sugar has melted and begun to bubble, 3 to 8 minutes. Let cool for a few minutes before eating warm.

2 grapefruits
4 teaspoons clear honey or 4 teaspoons maple syrup
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Steps:

  • Halve grapefruits and remove pith with a knife.
  • Loosen the sections.
  • Pour some honey into the centre of each grapefruit. Alternately drizzle the top with honey or maple syrup (thanks Ladypit!).
  • Sprinkle with cinnamon.
  • Bake at 190C/375F for 15 minutes.

3 grapefruits
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 egg whites 1/4 cup sugar
1 1/2 cups vanilla ice cream Special equipment: 6 (4-ounce) ramekins

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 450 degrees F. Remove the ends of the grapefruits to stabilize on the cutting board. Using a sharp knife, remove the skin and bitter pith from the flesh. Over a small bowl, hold grapefruit in 1 hand and carefully remove the segments by sliding the knife between the flesh and the membrane. Toss grapefruit pieces with brown sugar and vanilla and divide among 6 ramekins. In a large bowl, beat egg whites until light and fluffy. Add sugar and beat until meringue is glossy and holds stiff peaks. Top each ramekin with 1/4 cup of ice cream. Cover with meringue and bake until golden brown, about 7 minutes.

A wonderfully light breakfast (or even dessert) that could be an everyday thing, but is also nice enough to serve to guests at a brunch. I got this recipe from my great-aunt's cookbook.

2 grapefruits
1/2 cup grapes
1/2 cup fresh berries, of your choice
2 egg whites
1/2 cup sugar
1/8 teaspoon cream of tartar

Steps:

  • Cut grapefruits in half.
  • Carefully remove fruit sections; set aside fruit skins.
  • Mix grapefruit sections with grapes and berries in a small bowl.
  • You can add a bit of sugar, if you'd like them sweeter. Sometimes I sprinkle them with orange juice, although if you'd like them to be very fancy, you could toss the fruit with a little bit of champagne.
  • Refill grapefruit skins with berry mix.
  • Beat egg whites and cream of tartar in a cold mixing bowl until stiff peaks form.
  • Fold in sugar.
  • Cover fruit with merangue.
  • Bake at about 500 degrees until just golden brown.
  • It's easiest just to keep an eye on them until they look right; it really dos't take that long.

  • FOR ALL RECIPES: Pre-heat oven to 400F (200C), and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Cut the grapefruit in half. If you want to sturdy the grapefruit, slice the edge of the fruit a little so it's not so round anymore. Place them on the baking sheet.
  • HONEY VANILLA CARDAMOM: Sprinkle with cardamom and salt, drizzle with honey and vanilla extract. Bake for 17 minutes.
  • HONEY GINGER ROSEMARY: Chop ginger as finely as you want, sprinkle on top of the grapefruit along with some salt. Drizzle with honey and place a small piece of a rosemary sprig on top. You may want to add a aluminum foil on top to prevent burning, but I didn't find it necessary. Bake for 17 minutes. Remove rosemary before eating.
  • WARMING SPICES: Chop ginger as finely as you want, sprinkle on top of the grapefruit along with cinnamon, nutmeg, cardamom and salt. Bake for 17 minutes.
