Easy make-ahead French toast.

½ cup butter, melted
¾ cup brown sugar
1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
12 slices sandwich bread
6 eggs
½ cup milk
1 pinch salt

Steps:

  • Coat a 9x13-inch baking dish with melted butter. Spread any remaining melted butter over bottom of dish.
  • Sprinkle brown sugar and cinnamon evenly over melted butter.
  • Arrange bread in two layers over brown sugar mixture.
  • Beat eggs, milk, and salt in a bowl; pour over bread.
  • Cover and refrigerate overnight.
  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • Bake in the preheated oven until golden brown, about 30 minutes.

4 large eggs, lightly beaten
1 cup whole milk
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 teaspoon salt
12 slices day-old French bread (1/2 inch thick)
1-1/4 cups crushed cornflakes
1 to 2 tablespoons butter
SYRUP:
1-1/2 cups sugar
2/3 cup light corn syrup
1/2 cup water
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 can (5 ounces) evaporated milk
1/2 teaspoon butter flavoring
1/2 teaspoon almond extract

Steps:

  • In a shallow dish or pie plate, combine eggs, milk, vanilla and salt. Add bread and soak for 5 minutes, turning once to coat. Coat each slice with cornflake crumbs and place on a well-greased baking sheet. Dot each slice with butter. Bake at 450° for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown. , For syrup, combine sugar, corn syrup, water and cinnamon in a saucepan. Bring to a boil. Boil, stirring constantly, for 2 minutes. Remove from the heat; stir in evaporated milk and flavorings. , Serve over warm French toast.

We have made this French Toast for Christmas brunch for twenty four years! It originally came from the East Coast. If you like your French toast firmer, then cut back on the milk.

5 eggs, lightly beaten
1 ½ cups milk
1 cup half-and-half cream
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
½ (1 pound) loaf French bread, cut diagonally in 1 inch slices
½ cup butter, melted
1 cup light brown sugar
2 tablespoons maple syrup
1 cup chopped pecans

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, cream and vanilla. Dip bread slices into egg mixture and place in a lightly greased 9x13 inch baking pan. Refrigerate overnight.
  • The next morning: Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • In a small bowl, combine butter, sugar, maple syrup and pecans. Spoon mixture over bread.
  • Bake in preheated oven until golden, about 40 minutes. Let stand 5 minutes before serving.

12 slices day-old French bread (1 inch thick)
6 large eggs
1-1/2 cups 2% milk
1 cup half-and-half cream
2 tablespoons maple syrup
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
TOPPING:
1 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup butter, melted
2 tablespoons maple syrup
1 cup chopped pecans
4 cups chopped fresh strawberries
Additional maple syrup

Steps:

  • Place bread in a single layer in a greased 13x9-in. baking dish. In a large bowl, whisk eggs, milk, cream, syrup, vanilla, cinnamon and nutmeg; pour over bread. For topping, in a small bowl, mix brown sugar, butter and syrup; stir in pecans. Spread over bread. Refrigerate, covered, overnight., Preheat oven to 350°. Remove French toast from refrigerator while oven heats. Bake, uncovered, 40-50 minutes or until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean. Let stand 10 minutes before serving. Serve with strawberries and additional syrup.

1 package (8 ounces) cream cheese, cubed

Additional maple syrup

Steps:

  • Arrange half of the bread cubes in a greased shallow 2-qt. baking dish. Top with cream cheese and remaining bread. In a large bowl, whisk the eggs, milk and syrup; pour over bread. Cover and refrigerate overnight. Remove from the refrigerator 30 minutes before baking. , Cover and bake at 350° for 30 minutes. Uncover; bake 20-25 minutes longer or until golden brown. 1 loaf French bread (13 to 16 oz)
8 large eggs
2 cups half-and-half
1 cup milk
2 tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1 dash salt
1 cup butter
1 cup packed light brown sugar
1 cup chopped pecans
2 tablespoons light corn syrup
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg

Steps:

  • Slice French bread into 20 slices, 1 inch thick.
  • Arrange slices in a generously buttered 9x13-inch baking dish in 2 rows, overlapping slices.
  • In a large bowl, combine the eggs, half and half, milk, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt and beat with wire whisk until well blended.
  • Pour mixture over bread slices, making sure all are covered evenly with egg mixture.
  • Spoon some of the mixture in between the slices.
  • Cover with foil and refrigerate overnight.
  • The next morning, preheat oven to 350°F.
  • Spread praline topping evenly over bread and bake for 40 minutes, until puffed up and lightly golden brown.
  • Serve with maple syrup.

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375°. Using cooking spray, grease a 13x9-in. baking dish and set aside. , Slice croissants in half lengthwise. , In a large mixing bowl, whisk together eggs, cream, vanilla paste, cinnamon, orange zest and maple syrup. Submerge croissant halves in liquid until completely soaked. Arrange croissants in baking dish, overlapping slightly if necessary. Bake 25-30 minutes.
