After a 50 year absence, the Aviation cocktail has returned. Try this old-school gin cocktail, featuring maraschino and violet liqueur.

Number Of Ingredients 5

2 ounces gin
1/2 ounce maraschino liqueur
1/4 ounce crème de violette
3/4 ounce lemon juice, freshly squeezed
Garnish: brandied cherry

Steps:

  • Add the gin, maraschino liqueur, creme de violette and lemon juice to a shaker with ice and shake until well-chilled.
  • Strain into a cocktail glass.
  • Garnish with a brandied cherry.

A cult-ish favorite among the most serious cocktail aficionados, this pre-prohibition era gin drink is making a comeback. Serve 'up' and garnish with a cherry.

2 fluid ounces gin
1 tablespoon maraschino liqueur
¼ fluid ounce lemon juice
1 cup ice
maraschino cherry for garnish

Steps:

  • Combine gin, maraschino liqueur, and lemon juice in a cocktail shaker. Add ice, cover and shake until chilled. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass.
  • Garnish with maraschino cherry.

100ml gin
50ml lemon juice
50ml maraschino liqueur
25ml crème de violette
ice
blueberries and lemon zest, to garnish

Steps:

  • Pour the gin, lemon juice, maraschino liqueur and crème de violette into a cocktail shaker with a handful of ice and shake well. Taste, then add a splash of chilled water to dilute, if you like. Strain into four chilled cocktail glasses and garnish with blueberries and lemon zest.
