AUSTIN MARGARITA (AKA MEXICAN MARTINI)
After living in Austin Texas for 10 years, my husband and I perfected the perfect margarita. The secret to success is fresh fruit juice only and it doesn't use any pre-made mixes! Don't skimp and try buying juice. Squeeze it yourself or you won't get the best taste! If you are a real olive lover, add pimento stuffed olives and call it a 'Mexican martini'...delicious! and you won't confuse yours with anyone else's if you add 3 olives on a stirrer. :)

MEXICAN MARTINI
Originally the Mexican Martini was just a large margarita in Austin, Tex. But the presentation calls for the margarita to be served in a martini glass, with olives on a spear. Because it is about twice as large as a regular drink, customers are usually given the cocktail shaker and invited to pour it themselves.

TRADITIONAL MARTINI
Martinis are in! The key to an excellent martini is to ensure that it is ice cold. The classic martini has only two ingredients--so it's important to use the best ingredients you can afford. Vermouth should be stored in the refrigerator to retain its flavor. Energetic shaking with ice coupled with some flair is vital for a smooth/silky result. Stirring produces a crystal-clear martini but it will never get as cold as a shaken martini. This is also called an "in and out martini" or "spitting the vermouth." It results in a well balanced martini every time.

Steps:
- First inspect your martini glass for cleanliness
- Then, fill the glass with ice and water.
- Next grab your cocktail shaker and fill it with ice and the appropriate alcohol. Shake the alcohol to properly chill it. (No more than 30 seconds, as the alcohol will dilute in the ice and lose its integrity.) Use lots of flair! Make your martinis memorable even if it is just Friday evening at home.
- Then dump out the water and ice from the glass.
- Next pour dry vermouth around the top edge of the glass, holding your finger over the air spout. (This controls the pour.)
- Then swirl the glass to make sure the vermouth has fully coated the inner surface of the glass.
- Next dump the vermouth into the sink, and strain in the chilled liquor.
- Finally, add the olive (or if they are small, several). I think it is always best to spear the olives with a cocktail pick of some sort, otherwise you will find your guests unseemly digging their fingers into their martini in order to retrieve the delectable olive. If you want a dirty martini add some olive juice.

30 BEST CLASSIC AND MODERN MARTINI RECIPES - THE SPRUCE …
From thespruceeats.com
- Vodka Martini. Clean and crisp, the vodka martini is a 20th-century classic. Originally, it went by "kangaroo," but that name didn't last long. It's really nothing more than a martini that replaces the gin with vodka, though it's less aromatic, and that appeals to many drinkers.
- Dirty Martini Recipe. When you hear someone talk about a "dirty" martini, it's time to break out the olives. Featuring dry vermouth, you can make it with gin or vodka, and it even works with tequila.
- Dry Gin Martini. There's no better way to kick off a martini recipe collection than with the martini. Made of gin and dry vermouth with an optional dash of bitters, the gin martini has an iconic taste marked with a dry botanical flavor profile.
- Perfect Martini. There's a special vocabulary in the martini world: Ironically, "dry" means less dry vermouth, and "perfect" means the drink includes equal parts of dry and sweet vermouth.
- Gin and It. The "it" in this martini is simply sweet vermouth, a cousin of dry vermouth with a lot of character and a sweet and earthy taste. The combination of gin and sweet vermouth—also known as red vermouth—makes for a very simple and sweet gin martini that is easy to fall for, particularly if you don't like your martinis dry.
- Vesper. The Vesper is a fascinating cocktail. Compared to the gin martini, it has a slightly sweet, bitter taste contributed by Lillet, while the vodka tames the gin's botanicals.
- Chartreuse Martini. The green Chartreuse in this martini adds a subtle touch of sweetened herbs that pairs wonderfully with the botanicals found in gin and dry vermouth.
- Saketini Recipe. Vermouth is the typical modifier in martinis, but it's not the only option. In the saketini, it's replaced with sake, and the drink can be made with either gin or vodka.
- Lemon Drop Martini. The sweet-sour style is also found in a modern classic. The lemon drop martini was devised in the 1970s and is so popular that countless bottled versions are available.
- The Last Word. The Last Word recipe is fairly easy, pouring equals parts of its four ingredients. The gin's botanicals are accented with the herbal array of Green Chartreuse and the dry, semi-bitter cherry of maraschino liqueur.
