DECADENT & CHEWY CHOCOLATE CHIP WALNUT BARS
These decadent dessert bars are easy and delicous! You'll love the chew texture and crunchy walnuts against the sweet chocolate.

Steps:
- Preheat the oven to 375.
- Cream the butter, adding in the sugars, mixing well. Add in the eggs and the vanilla.
- In a seperate bowl, mix the flour, baking soda, salt. Add it into the wet ingredietns until well incorporated.
- Mix in the chocolate chips and the walnuts
- Line and 8x8 baking dish with parchment paper. Lightly spray the parchment paper. Spread out the batter and press down.
- Bake for 30 minuets until set.
- Remove from the oven and let cool before lifting the parchment paper. Slice the bars once cooled.
- Serve with ice cream or cold milk.

AUSTRIAN CHOCOLATE WALNUT BARS
These are pretty decadent and rich. If kept in an airtight container, these will keep at room temperature for about 3 days or you can freeze them for up to 3 months.

- Preheat oven to 375°F. Grease a 13x9x2-inch baking pan; set aside. In a large bowl, beat the 1 cup butter with an electric mixer on medium to high speed for 30 seconds. Add the 1/2 cup brown sugar. Beat until combined, scraping side of bowl occasionally. Gradually add flour, beating on low speed just until combined (mixture will look slightly dry). Press mixture into prepared pan. Bake in the preheated oven for 10 minutes. Carefully spread preserves over hot crust.
- In another large bowl, beat eggs on medium-high speed for 3 minutes. Add the 1 1/2 cups brown sugar, the cocoa powder, vanilla, and salt. Beat on low speed for 3 minutes. Gradually add the finely ground walnuts, beating just until combined.
- Carefully spread chocolate mixture evenly over preserves. Bake about 30 minutes or until set. Cool completely in pan on a wire rack.
- For the Icing: In a medium heavy saucepan, combine bittersweet chocolate and the 3 tablespoons butter. Cook and stir over low heat until melted. Stir in corn syrup and rum. Spread icing over cooled uncut cookies. If desired, top with the walnut halves. Let stand for 1 to 2 hours or until chocolate is set. Using a sharp knife, loosen edges of cookies from sides of pan. Cut into bars.

- In a large bowl, beat butter until creamy. Beat in egg yolks, 2 at a time. Gradually beat in flour., Divide dough into 3 portions. Shape each into a disk; wrap in plastic. Refrigerate overnight., Preheat oven to 350°. In a small bowl, using clean beaters, beat egg whites on medium speed until foamy. Gradually add confectioners' sugar, 2 tablespoons at a time, beating on high after each addition until sugar is dissolved. Continue beating until stiff glossy peaks form. Fold in walnuts., On a lightly floured surface, roll each portion of dough to 1/8-in. thickness. Cut with a floured 3-in. round cookie cutter. Spread each cookie with 1 teaspoon walnut mixture to within 1/4-in. of edges. Fold dough almost in half over filling, allowing filling to show. Place 1 in. apart on ungreased baking sheets., Bake 8-10 minutes or until light brown. Remove from pans to wire racks to cool completely., Dust cookies with additional confectioner's sugar. - Heat over to 350°F. Place cooking parchment paper or waxed paper in bottoms of two 9-inch round cake pans. In medium bowl, mix walnuts, crushed cookies, brown sugar and butter until crumbly. Spread about 3/4 cup mixture in each pan; reserve remaining mixture.
- In large bowl, beat all cake ingredients with electric mixer on low speed 30 seconds, scraping bowl constantly. Beat on high speed 3 minutes, scraping bowl occasionally. Pour about 1 1/4 cups batter over topping in each pan; refrigerate remaining batter.
- Bake about 20 minutes or until tops spring back when touched lightly. Immediately remove from pans to cooling rack; peel off paper. Repeat with remaining topping mixture and batter. Cool completely.
- In chilled large bowl, beat whipping cream, granulated sugar and vanilla with electric mixer on high speed until stiff. Place 1 cake layer, walnut side up, on serving plate; spread with about 3/4 cup of the filling. Repeat with remaining layers and filling.
- Or place whipped cream for top layer in decorating bag fitted with star tip number 6. Pipe rosettes in center of cake; garnish with chocolate leaves. To make chocolate leaves, wash and dry leaves. In 1-quart saucepan, melt chocolate chips and shortening over low heat, stirring constantly. Using small brush, brush chocolate about 1/8 inch thick over backs of leaves. Refrigerate at least 1 hour until firm. Peel off leaves, handling as little as possible. Cover and refrigerate torte about 4 hours or until chilled. Store in refrigerator.
