HONEY NUT OATMEAL BREAD (ABM)



Honey Nut Oatmeal Bread (abm) image

This is one of my favorite ABM loaves. It is substantial without being heavy. I always end up leaving out the nuts though. Cooking time will vary with ABM model.

1 cup water
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
2 tablespoons honey
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup oats
1/2 cup whole wheat flour
1 1/2 cups bread flour
3 tablespoons nonfat dry milk powder
1 1/2 teaspoons dry yeast
1/2 cup chopped walnuts

Steps:

  • Add in the order directed by your ABM.
  • At the beep, add the chopped nuts.

Honey Oatmeal Bread (Abm) image

This bread recipe came off the back of the bread flour. I found it to be so good, just a "tad sweet', and its great toasted. Cook time is what is suggested on your ABM. For a softer crust, butter the crust of the bread and put in a plastic bag as soon as it comes out of the machine. This recipe makes a 1 1/2 pound loaf.

1 cup warm water (between 75 and 85 degrees)
2 tablespoons margarine
1/4 cup honey
1 egg, lightly beaten
3 cups bread flour
1/2 cup quick-cooking oats
2 tablespoons non-fat powdered milk
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon cinnamon (add more if you like)
1 1/2 teaspoons bread machine yeast (or what ever you normally use)

Steps:

  • Measure ingredients into bread machine in the order listed in the order suggested by manufacturer.
  • Select "light" baking mode,if available.

This makes a small 1lb loaf but it can be increased to make a larger loaf for larger families. It makes exquisite toast and I think French Toast made on Christmas morning from it is almost a requirement :D.

1/2 cup water
1/4 cup milk
2 tablespoons butter
3 tablespoons dark brown sugar (more it you want a really sweet bread)
1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 1/4 cups wheat flour
1 cup white bread flour
1 1/2 teaspoons yeast
1/2 cup chopped pecans

Steps:

  • Add all ingredients except pecans to bread machine, and start machine.
  • Use wheat bread cycle for 1-pound loaf.
  • Add pecans at the end of the first knead, or when your bread machine "beeps" to add fruit or nuts.
  • Baking time is however long your machine takes.

Very good sweet bread. Perfect bread for around Christmas time or any time of the year. Makes good toast and would also be nice as french toast. Sometimes we use half whole wheat and half white that also makes it good, but suit yourself. This is a recipe from a friend.

1 cup old fashioned oats
2 cups water
2 tablespoons active dry yeast
1/3 cup warm water
1/2 cup molasses
2 1/2 teaspoons salt
2 tablespoons oil
2 eggs
5 -6 cups all-purpose flour

Steps:

  • Pour oats and water into a small saucepan and cook over medium high heat.
  • Stir until the oats soften and the water is absorbed (about 5 minutes).
  • Set aside to cool.
  • Dissolve the yeast in the warm water in a large bowl and let sit for about 5 minutes.
  • Add and mix molasses, salt oil eggs and cooled oatmeal.
  • Gradually stir in the flour until the dough begins to form itself into a ball.
  • Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5- 10 minutes or until it is smooth and elastic.
  • Place the dough into an oiled bowl and let rise for 1 hour or until double its size.
  • Punch down dough and divide it into loaves.
  • Place loaves into two well greased loaf pans and let them rise again for 1 hour or until doubled.
  • Heat oven to 375°F.
  • Bake loaves for 30-35 minutes or until medium brown on top and on the sides.
  • It is a good idea to be careful with this bread since it is delicate and can tear or stick if you try to remove it from the pans too soon.
  • Enjoy!
